Saint Augustine University of Tanzania Saint Augustine University of Tanzania is the largest private university in Tanzania. Its objectives is to provide education to all within their vicinity. St.

Augustine University of Tanzania, established in 1998, is an independent higher learning institution governed by the Board of Trustees and the University Council under the Catholic Bishops of Tanzania (Tanzania Episcopal Conference). The University is accredited holding a certificate of Accreditation granted by the higher Education Accreditation Council of Tanzania (currently known as the Tanzania

Commission for Universities) on 25th September 2002 in accordance with the provisions of the Educational (Amendment) Act No. 10 of 1995. The University extends over 600 acres in the Nyegezi-Malimbe area 10km south of Mwanza City. It lies 4km off the main Mwanza- Shinyanga road on the shores of Lake Victoria. The University is a half-hour’s drive from Mwanza by car or by bus. As part of Tanzania’s central highlands (1140m above the sea level), the area to the south of Lake Victoria is noted for its moderate temperatures. Mwanza can be reached from other parts of Tanzania and East Africa by train, air, ferry and highway.

Press Release- Appointment of Rev. Fr. Dr. Innocent Sanga as Acting Deputy Principal for Administration and Finance at Archbishop Mihayo University College of Tabora (AMUCTA).

The President of the Tanzania Episcopal Conference (TEC), Chancellor of the Saint Augustine University of Tanzania (SAUT), and Bishop of Lindi, Rt. Rev. Wolfgang Pisa, OFMCap has appointed Rev. Fr. Dr. Innocent Sanga as Deputy Principal for Administration and Finance Archbishop Mihayo Uni. College with immediate effect.

The appointment has been made in accordance with the SAUT Charter, 2010, GN No. 500, Article 19(1), and relevant Rules and Regulations made under the Universities Act, 2025 and the above mentioned Charter.

Rev. Fr. Dr. Sanga is a Senior Lecturer in Philosophy with experience in academic leadership, administration, planning, research and pastoral service.
He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Theology from Peramiho Major Seminary, a Constituent Seminary of the Pontifical Urban University (Urbaniana) in Rome, and a Bachelor’s Degree, Master’s Degree and Doctor of Philosophy in Philosophy from the Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA) CUEA Nairobi. His doctoral research focused on Nyerere’s concept of human dignity.

His service SAUT MAIN CAMPUS includes holding several positions at SAUT Mbeya (current Catholic University of Mbeya) Tzcuom Mbeya where he saved as: Chaplain, Development Director/Project Manager, and the Deputy Director for Finance and Administration. He later joined SAUT Mwanza, where he has served as the Head of Department of Philosophy and Ethics and the team leader of the University Examinations Invigilation Team from 2020.

The University extends its heartfelt congratulations to Rev. Fr. Dr. Sanga on his appointment and wishes him every success in his new assignment. Liturgical and Academic Ceremony held during the Investiture SAUT MAIN CAMPUS in which the new Vice Chancellor of the Saint Augustine University of Tanzania (SAUT) was sworn in to begin his first tenure.

The investiture ceremony to install the new Vice Chancellor was led by Rt. Rev. Simon Masondole, Bishop of Bunda who represented the President of Tanzania Episcopal Conference (TEC), Rt. Rev. Wolfgang Pisa OFMCap, Bishop of Lindi and Chancellor of SAUT.

The new Vice Chancellor, Prof. Fr. Emmanuel Wabanhu accepted the office with humility and gratitude to Almighty God. He pledged to serve by leading SAUT in Truth, Faith, Academic Excellence and Service.

Hafla ya Makabidhiano ya Ofisi:

Makamu Mkuu wa Chuo Kikuu SAUT MAIN CAMPUS Padri Prof. Emmanuel Wabanhu leo tarehe 1 Agosti, 2026 amekabidhiwa rasmi ofisi na mtangulizi wake Padri Prof. Juvenalis Asantemungu aliyekuwa amekaimu nafasi hiyo kwa muda.

Katika hafla hiyo ya makabidhiano ya ofisi Prof. Wabanhu amesema chuo kitaelekeza nguvu katika mageuzi ya kidijitali kwa kuanzisha programu za masomo zitakazokuwa zinatolewa kwa njia ya mtandao hatua inayolenga kuongeza upatikanaji wa elimu bora na tafiti zenye tija kimataifa.

Prof. Wabanhu amesema kuwa SAUT imejipanga kutumia teknolojia katika utoaji wa elimu huku akisisitiza matumizi sahihi ya akili mnemba yanayolinda utu, maadili na maslahi ya mwanadamu.

Katika hafla hii ya makabidhiano, Prof. Wabanhu ameishukuru serikali kupitia Bodi ya Mikopo ya Elimu ya juu (HESLB) Heslb Tanzania kwa kuendelea kutoa mikopo kwa wanafunzi wa vyuo vikuu binafsi nchini.

Kwa namna ya kipekee amelishukuru Baraza la Maaskofu Katoliki Tanzania (TEC) kwa imani na dhamira njema ya kumteua kuongoza SAUT akiahidi kuitumikia kwa ushirikiano, uwazi na kujituma ili kufikia malengo ya taasisi kitaaluma na kijamii.

Wakati wa salamu za shukrani kwa Menejimenti ya SAUT, Prof. Juvenalis Asantemungu, aliyekuwa Kaimu Makamu Mkuu wa Chuo amewataka wafanyakazi kuendelea kumpatia ushirikiano Prof. Wabanhu ili aweze kutekeleza majukumu haya mapya kwa ufanisi.

Press Release- Appointment of Rev. Prof. Emmanuel Charles Wabanhu as Vice Chancellor of the Saint Augustine University of Tanzania (SAUT).

The President of the Tanzania Episcopal Conference (TEC), Chancellor of the Saint Augustine University of Tanzania (SAUT), and Bishop of Lindi Rt. Rev. Wolfgang Pisa, OFMCap, has appointed Rev. Prof. Emmanuel Charles Wabanhu as Vice Chancellor of SAUT SAUT MAIN CAMPUS with effect from August 01, 2026.

The appointment has been made in accordance with article 11, read together with rule 10 of the Charter of SAUT, as published under Government Notice (GN) No. 580 of 2020, made pursuant to the Universities Act, Cap. 346 Revised Edition 2023.

The University extends its heartfelt congratulations to Rev. Prof. Wabanhu on his appointment and wishes him every success in his new assignment. The SAUT community and the general public are kindly requested to accord him their full cooperation and support as he assumes this important responsibility.
