At Shule Bora, we’re working to ensure climate resilience strategies are embedded at the heart of the education system in Tanzania 🌱📚.

Through the Shule Bora programme, Wizara ya Elimu, Sayansi na Teknolojia is reviewing the Guidelines for the Registration of Primary Schools, Secondary Schools, and Colleges, aligning them with the revised Education and Training Policy (2023 Edition). One of the key improvements is integrating climate-smart standards into every new school and college.

This week in Arusha, education stakeholders, including school owners, teachers, education officers, and school quality assurance officers, came together to review the draft guidelines and provide their input before they are formally adopted by the Ministry.

This is an important step toward building safe, climate-smart learning spaces for every child in Tanzania!.

Earlier this week at , we held a session that explored how countries are rethinking education to withstand the climate crisis, with lessons from Pakistan, South Sudan, Mozambique and Tanzania.

🔎 Key shifts discussed that are needed to mitigate climate effects on education ⤵️
* Using anticipatory tools (like GIS) to plan before disasters strike
* Designing and rebuilding schools to be genuinely climate-smart
* Taking a whole-system, cross-sector approach rather than isolated fixes
* Positioning schools as anchors of community resilience
* Supporting children to be co-creators of solutions, not passive recipients

💡 Knowledge alone isn't enough, children need skills, and agency to act.

The Q&A and panel discussion reinforced one clear takeaway:
📢 Protecting learning in a changing climate requires urgent, collective action now!

📍Singida, We’ve just concluded a two-day workshop with Shule Bora focal persons from 67 LGAs across 9 regions, alongside teams from the Wizara ya Elimu, Sayansi na Teknolojia and Ofisi ya Rais - Tamisemi . These are the hands and minds behind the day-to-day delivery of Shule Bora across Tanzania.

Chaired by Ernest Hinju, Deputy Director for Adult Education at PORALG, the workshop focused on sharing lessons, resolving challenges, reinforcing technical support, and strengthening the coordination that drives results.

It’s this kind of collaborative, cross-level engagement that keeps reforms relevant, responsive, and firmly rooted in context. 💪🏽📚

Strengthening systems isn’t just about rolling out what works, it’s about testing, adapting, and building ownership from the ground up.

Last week in Kasulu, Kigoma, headteachers, WEOs, REOs, and SQAs came together to reflect on the implementation of school safety and inclusion strategies. This gathering followed mini-reflection sessions in the regions of Pwani, Rukwa, and Mara, bringing together nearly 80 education leaders who are driving change in their communities.

These sessions are part of our ongoing Action Research initiative to uncover locally driven solutions to challenges in applying the National School Safety and Inclusion Guidelines.

We're learning that the best answers often come from the ground, not the top.

What does meaningful look like to you?🤔
