The painful truth—

some kids lose Chinese completely by age 4,

and by 7, their mother tongue is gone. 💔

Overseas, English is everywhere.

But who’s left to speak Chinese with your child?

Maybe only you.

Miss the window, and Chinese may never come back.

First-generation immigrants already carry so much—building a life, helping kids with English—many parents quietly think, “Maybe we can just give up on Chinese.”

But Principal Stanley warns: losing a language isn’t just about losing a skill, it’s about losing a deeper layer of family connection.

🎙️ Iris from HoHo Homeschool shared:
When kids start writing, they often mix Chinese characters with English letters.
Like when her child saw the character for “poop” with a big “P” on top, he laughed: “Mom, that’s the P in Poo!” 😂

If you hand everything to a teacher, you might miss.

Why don’t Chinese schools or online classes always work? 🤔

Because they’re “taught once” by someone else—and after a week or two, kids may retain less than 5%.

Reading-based learning is different.

When it comes to learning Chinese, faster isn’t always better.

Sometimes slowing down is the only way your child can truly keep up. 💡

No flashcards, no tests—

just reading favorite books again and again, and talking over dinner.

Bit by bit, Chinese became my child’s *own* language,

not something I forced. ❤️

🎙️ Shared reading isn’t homework—it’s about sparking a child’s *inner drive*.

That’s when they ask for book after book: “More, more!” 📚✨

Often, it’s not the child but the parent who stops enjoying it.

Keep it simple and fun, and the joy of reading grows together. ❤️

You don’t have to be a teacher to raise a child who speaks Chinese. 📚✨

No tests, no drills—

just stories, pretend play, and daily moments together.

What kids need isn’t a perfect tutor,

but a parent who talks, plays, and grows with them. ❤️
