2026 S2 Resident Artist's Introduction

      Duenchayphoochana PHOOPRASERT

Treasure Hill Artist Village X Silpakorn University, Thailand

⏰ 2025.06.08-08.24

Duenchayphoochana Phooprasert is an artist whose practice is grounded in long-term research on soil, memory, and the fragility of landscapes for more than 15 years. In 2025, she developed a body of work that uses the surface of the earth as both material and metaphor. Her practice involves field research, collecting soil from field sites, and creating installations that reflect the tension between nature’s fragility and resilience.

Throughout her career, she has received awards from the National Exhibition of Art in Thailand since 2009 and multiple research grants related to soil and material based artistic research from the National Research Council of Thailand and international institutions, supporting the development of her material-driven methodology and conceptual framework.

A key project is Memories of the Earth (Art Venture Ehime Fes 2025, Japan), where she collaborated with local communities and worked with Tobe clay to explore memory embedded within land. Her doctoral research investigates how soil surfaces function as archives of time across cultural contexts.

2026 S1 Resident Artist Stage Reading/Performance:Alice in Hungerland Review

On the afternoons of May 9 and May 10, the staged reading Alice in Hungerland reimagined Alice in Wonderland through a Taiwanese lens, centering on a young woman’s fraught relationship with food, body, and cultural identity.

The piece followed 18‑year‑old Taiwanese American freshman Alice as she oscillated between bingeing and restriction to please others, her body undergoing dramatic shifts, while mother‑daughter calls, friendships, romances, and exchange, visiting‑family experiences wove through the narrative. Using absurdist and darkly comic tones, the performance deployed symbolic figures—Rabbit, Maddie (Hat), Cheshir (lion‑dance imagery), Dean March, Blossom, Cato—and recurring motifs (growing, shrinking, tears as flood, Moon Festival, MSG, binge eating, “nothing girls,” unhealthy food menus) to foreground inner and cultural pressures.

In the end, the reading culminated in a surreal courtroom: Alice was accused of taking a tart that symbolized her mother, a trial that served as a metaphorical scrutiny of women’s bodies and behaviors. Stylistically experimental and powerful, the work was finely attuned to rhythm and nuance, with Alice’s emotional shifts rendered in layered detail; it probed the complex intersections of , , and .

2026 S1 resident artists at Visit Review

Can perception transcend the boundaries of everyday vision?

This week, our resident artists delved into the exhibition at MoNTUE. Starting from the 1930s experiment to capture the "Moon’s Far Side," the group embarked on a journey of mental visualization.

◇ Artists’ Perceptual Intuitions
"Aliens as a Mist" ▸ Some artists were fascinated by the intersection of UFOs and the "mist" of disinformation within the exhibition, finding this ambiguity to be the most captivating part of the imagery.
"Spirit Photography" ▸ Seeing spirits and telepathy registered on photographic plates evoked a century-old cosmic resonance that struck the deepest parts of our perception.
"Processor Overload..." ▸ The psychological layers and the sheer diversity of the archives were so rich that the "incomprehensible" complexity actually fueled everyone’s desire to create!

◇ Core Exhibition Perspective:
The exhibition presents works by international contemporary artists who employ images to construct perceptual architectures, juxtaposed with historical artworks and archival materials. Here, the image functions as a "psychic interface," allowing time, voice, and identity to be re-perceived and understood across distance.

The mind itself is a form of imaging technology. This visit was not only a visual feast but an expansion of our sensory frontiers.
We look forward to seeing these inspirations transform into creative fuel for our residency projects!

Featured Artist Introduction

Parisa BABAEI
Treasure Hill Artist Village X French office in Taipei - Villa Formose
⏰ 2025.04.15-05.14

Parisa Babaei was born in Tehran, Iran, and lives and works in Paris. Her work examines how images and texts are constructed and how they circulate through language, as well as through social, political, and cultural frameworks. She explores systems of belief and representation that shape the movement of forms and ideas within collective imaginaries, with a particular focus on memory and the politics of language.

Her practice is rooted in collage: her works function like visual rebuses, composed of fragments, absences, and disruptions in reading, always open to multiple interpretations. She combines different languages, everyday or modest materials, and images and objects drawn from popular culture. Scholarly references and folklore, vernacular symbols, and mythological narratives intersect within complex assemblages that shift the symbolic charge of materials and create polysemic spaces.

She thus develops a critical practice infused with humor, in which processes of encoding and linguistic slippage contribute to a form of “social surrealism.” Her installations bring together objects, images, and texts to reveal—through layered associations—the hidden dimensions of intimate political histories.

Parisa Babaei is a multidisciplinary artist, born and raised in Tehran. She graduated from the University of Art and Architecture of Tehran, the Beaux-Arts de Paris, and the ENSBA Lyon postgraduate program (2024). She currently lives and works in the Paris region. Her work has been shown in a range of institutional exhibitions, including the Frac Île-de-France and the IFA Gallery in Stuttgart.

2026 Season 1 Resident Artist Exhibition Event|LEE Ah-Young Research Talk:Research as Mirroring through Everyday Practices: Toward an Atlas of Taiwanese Complex Art as Reflected in Korean Experimental Art Review

On the afternoon of May 2, resident curator&researcher LEE Ah-Young held a research talk to share the results of her residency in Treasure Hill Artist Village.

Based on her interest in Taiwanese avant-garde art, LEE Ah-Young’s research examines Taiwan’s 20th-century history and artistic development from multiple perspectives. In this residency, she presented her work through a series of atlases and experimental archival writing, going beyond the limits of linear narrative.

Through the atlases she constructed, she explored the shared histories of colonialism and authoritarian rule in Korea and Taiwan, as well as the different responses that emerged with the rise of nationalism. This project also provides possible starting points for her future work.On the afternoon of May 2, resident curator&researcher LEE Ah-Young held a research talk to share the results of her residency in Treasure Hill Artist Village.

Curator Visit & 2026 S1 Artist Exchange Recap — Railway × Treasure Hill

Yu‑Hsuan Lee, Director of the Art Site of Railway Warehouse, Hsinchu City, joined the 2026 Treasure Hill (AIR Taipei) S1 resident artists for a successful exchange! 🎨

From the Hsinchu railway settlement’s rebirth as an art site in 2001 to management by the Accton Arts Foundation since 2016, we uphold the core value “Making Partnership Work”: supporting artists, expanding public access to art, and creating inclusive cultural spaces. Residency is not one‑way — artists and sites mutually sustain each other, bringing projects, dialogue, and community energy that extend into community co-creation, international collaborations, and industry partnerships.

Thanks to everyone who participated. Looking forward to more cross‑site co-creation and growth.

Note: Treasure Hill was registered as a historic settlement in 2004 and opened as an international artist village in 2010. Curator–resident artist exchanges often spark unexpected connections — we’re delighted and look forward to more collaborations!
