✱ TISDC Visits the UK: Peter Cook Architects

This year, the Taiwan International Student Design Competition (TISDC) expanded its international outreach to the UK with a visit to the architectural practice of Peter Cook. This exchange was facilitated by Taiwanese architect Liu Cheng-Ju (a former TISDC award-winning student) through participation in the Ministry of Education’s Elite Training Program. Through this opportunity, we aim to bring diverse and inspiring perspectives to the evaluation of competition entries, drawing on profound expertise and forward-looking insights. ✨

Peter Cook is a leading British architect and theorist, and a key member of the avant-garde architectural group “Archigram.” Renowned for his imaginative and future-oriented approach, his work has long explored the dynamic relationship between architecture, technology, and the city, exerting a significant influence on contemporary architectural discourse. His design philosophy emphasizes fluidity and flexibility of form, while expanding architectural possibilities through diverse modes of expression. Peter Cook has also made substantial contributions to architectural education, having served as Chair of the Bartlett School of Architecture at University College London, where he nurtured generations of globally minded architects. His notable work, Kunsthaus Graz in Austria, exemplifies innovative integration between architecture and media. ✨

The 2026 TISDC campus promotion took place at Yuan Ze University in March, engaging students through a workshop-based format that combined hands-on practice with interactive exchange. The session guided participants to explore the relationship between design and contemporary issues from multiple perspectives, strengthening the application and practice of design education.

The workshop was led by Project Director Associate Professor Yan-Ting Chen, featuring a Digital Product Sustainability IT Workshop. Students were encouraged to approach design from a sustainability perspective, examining the impact of digital products within environmental and social contexts. Through interactive discussions and case studies, the workshop aimed to cultivate the ability to transform design concepts into concrete proposals.💡

本次活動由計畫主持人陳彥廷副教授親自進行介紹，從競賽理念、主題脈絡到參賽策略，帶領同學深入了解 TISDC 作為全球最大國際學生設計競賽的核心精神與價值。💡
透過面對面的交流，不僅促進臺灣與日本設計教育之間的連結，也鼓勵更多國際學生以設計回應當代議題，發揮創意影響力 🚀

The 2026 TISDC campus promotion continues to expand its international reach!
This year’s international campus outreach event took place on Jan. 28 (Wed.) at Okinawa Prefectural University of Arts, fostering meaningful exchange and interaction with local design students 🎉
The session was personally led by Project Director Associate Professor Yan-Ting Chen, who introduced the competition’s vision, thematic context, and participation strategies, guiding students to gain a deeper understanding of TISDC as the world’s largest international student design competition and its core values. 💡
Through face-to-face engagement, the event not only strengthened connections between design education in Taiwan and Japan, but also encouraged more international students to respond to contemporary issues through design and amplify their creative impact 🚀
