This is the companion Facebook site for the May 27–28, 2016 conference, Forgotten Books and Cultur How should these texts be understood and contextualized?

In this conference, we will investigate how the process of forgetting and remembering literary texts impacts cultural memory (at the local, national, and globalized level). We welcome papers that are descriptive: these papers may make a claim about how the process of forgetting and remembering a text has worked in a particular time or place, or they may describe the significance of still-forgotten

We're extending the sign-up deadline for the Companion Cultural Events till next Monday, April 25. If you are free on Thursday, we'd particularly like to encourage you to join us for the morning (9:00–2:00 tour of Academia Sinica's Museum of the Institute of History and Philology and the Archives of the Institute for Taiwan History, followed by a set lunch at Fu Hsin Hotel) and/or our trip to Taipei Tea House at 2:15 to learn to make green tea from fresh leaves. The Museum of the Institute of History and Philology is opening specially in order to give us a tour of their collection, which includes Han Dynasty Wooden Slips and rare texts from the Sung Dynasty as well as exhibits on the ruins of Yin, artifacts from the Eastern and Western Chou dynasties, artifacts from southwestern ethnic groups, Lung Shan culture, and Taiwan archaeology. https://forgottenbookstaipei.wordpress.com/companion-cultural-events/

中研院歷史語言研究所歷史文物陳列館 居延漢簡──漢帝國的防衛線 展期:2015年10月21日起 展區:居延漢簡區(201室) 這是迄今為止所有出土漢簡中,木簡、墨跡及編繩保存都最完整的一份漢代簡冊。簡冊由四組編繩編連七十七支簡而成。除兩支空白簡,其餘簡上是五份廣地南部按月及四時上報部內破胡燧、澗上燧釜、磑、弩、箭等裝備數量及情況的報告書。這份簡冊不但使我們了解漢代如何編造簡冊,也使我們認識漢代邊塞有那些裝備,又如何檢查裝備。

Before and during the conference, attendees can register to visit museums and archives related to our conference theme. We have also made arrangements for visits to two tea houses, where conference presenters and attendees can relax and get to know one another better before the formal conference starts.
