Moonrise: The Mythic Rock Opera 🌕⚡🎸

Moonrise is an original show - written and performed by rad q***r artists - creatively retelling an old Celtic story about returning power to the Earth and the Goddess.

With an original music score, poetic storytelling, masks, shadow puppetry and audience participation, this hilarious and heart-felt story is sure to awaken your imagination.

In this enchanted modern day adventure, the insidious Emperor has trapped the Earth in darkness. With the help of magical allies the child of the Earth, Weaver, sets out to reveal the truth of the past and restore the balance within and without.

About StarSeed Theatre
Thomas Aerie and Rue McDonald are collaborating as partners, starting a theatre company called Starseed Theatre. We feel like the stories are coming to us and working through us and we’re listening to what stories want to be told. We’re drawing from our ancestry and our own experience as q***r settlers in the world at this time. Theatre can be a meeting place for ideas, healing, magic, joy, grief, big transformation, magic and colourful expression ( you name it!). Hi! Welcome to new followers 🌈🫶🏼I’m Rue they/them (also Ruadh, pr. Roo-uh) I’m coming out of a cocoon and I’m excited to share about some changes.
First, I love this new foxy logo SO much. Makes my whole body and spirit joyful 🦊✨
As I change so does my vision for this learning center.. relational constellations shift, home shifts … I’m following the natural ebbs and flows of the magic... this work is so alive! I’m so grateful for the change and the passion of creativity that is the font of inspiration that feeds this practice… because that’s what this whole experience has been: a practice. An experiment of embodiment of liberatory lifeways through magical thinking, weaving the world with story, ancestral wisdoms, herbal medicine and artistic practices. Celebrating and upholding q***rness as a way we can sing & echo the beauty, diversity and wildness our authentic selves. Exploring how to embody the expressed value of decolonial healing, resourcing in ancestral wisdoms, grounding to show up with greater responsibility, dignity and humanity to the vital processes of decolonization and climate action. It’s work that keeps me attuned with the edges of my undoing & becoming for which I’m deeply grateful. Thank you from my deepest well of gratitude for all those who have enjoyed this content, jumped in on a workshop or offered their magic 🙏🏼 it’s all been so beautiful, challenging and transformative.

As my ancestral lineage healing has deepened my practice immeasurably in attunement and presence, my ritualist skill is becoming clear, realized and embodied. It feels deeply accurate. I’m exploring the next shape my practice will take. I know I love to collaborate with, mentor and uplift q***r educators so this will still be a piece of the vision. What is shifting is a refocusing to ‘Magic School’ alongside the emergence of my personal practice ‘Fox Den Rituals’ and ritual theater collaborations. Thanks for reading this far. Magic School Moon Magic Series✨🌑🐉✨
On the last day of the moon magic series, we made wishes into this dark moon. We journeyed in our imaginations to dance with the moon spirit and other magical beings on the moon and received gifts from them. We went on a tour to go meet sheep at Linnaea farm to try out our animal communication skills (one of the gifts we received on the moon), then learned to spin yarn and create beautiful willow moon hoop weavings ✨🌑🐉✨ big gratitude to CCHA youth programs for funding this super wonderful program and bringing together this learning community 💚

Today was our first Magic School Dream Ritual workshop held in the cozy hearth of the Cortes Women’s Centre and I feel called to express a bunch of gratitude! So deeply grateful for the magic and belonging woven with this sweet cohort of potent dreamers. I’m grateful for the intergenerational relationships. For the ancestral reconnection of story telling, herbal allies, prayer and song. So much deep gratitude to Mugwort for holding us each so tenderly in care and buoyancy 🐉💚 Thank you Rowan who protected us so fully yet connected us in just the right ways ❤️🔥 Thank you to our ancestors who guided us to weave together this path of healing with dream.
I’m so deeply honoured and elated to be beginning this potent journey together. Thank you to the Indigenous land where we gathered for holding us so graciously. May our bodies be bridge for healing of this land. Thank you to the Cortes Women’s Resource Centre for hosting this precious space for us to come together to heal in community🕯️🌑✨

In this exciting new partnership, Magic School’s Rue McDonald is offering a three part adult series for deeply nourishing the soul with the magic of dreaming. You are heartily welcomed to join the circle where we will follow the moon cycle weaving botanical art, music, movement, storytelling, folk herbalism, and dream practice.
