Professor Mao-Jiun J. Wang Became New President of Tunghai University
On February 1, 2016, the official seal of Tunghai University was handed over from proxy president Prof. Cheng-Tung Lin to Prof. Mao-Jiun J. Wang in Luce Chapel. The ceremony was witnessed by THU Chairman Pastor Chi-Hong Tseng and over 300 guests.
Chairman Tseng thanked Prof. Lin for his selfless and industrious contribution to Tunghai in the past months. He also encouraged President Wang to continuously lead THU into a better tomorrow under the solid foundation laid by Prof. Lin and with the benediction of the whole university community.
President Wang said that he was honored to serve his alma mater and to receive the university seal in Luce Chapel, the very chapel where he was baptized 40 years ago and became married 36 years ago. He described Tunghai University as the place where he was enlightened as well as where he set off on his career. The school moto “Truth, Faith, Deeds” has signified the core value of the institution and the founding spirit of innovation has shaped THU into its vibrant campus culture today. President Wang expressed his commitment of working together with the whole faculty to develop THU into a holistic, innovative, and friendly learning environment where younger generations to come will be educated in knowledge, in character, as well as in spiritual advancement.
President Wang is an alumnus of THU Department of Chemistry and earned his MSc in Industrial Engineering from Nebraska University, USA and PhD in Industrial Engineering from State University of New York at Buffalo, USA. He is specialized in applied ergonomics, digital human modeling and Biomechanics. Before assuming the position as president of Tunghai University, prof. Wang was Dean of College of Engineering at National Tsing Hua University (NTHU), Convener of Industrial Engineering and Management Program in the Ministry of Science and Technology, Director of Advanced Manufacturing and Service Management Research Center at NTHU, and Chair Professor at NTHU. He is a Fellow of CIIE, IIE and IEA, and an Honorary Fellow of HFES.

Combine service learning and care-taking of underprivileged children in the one-month summer camp.
Volunteers are expected to work along with Taiwanese volunteers and educators as camp counselors at designated elementary schools
Camp program includes sport activities, compensation lessons, English lessons, community volunteering, arts and craft sessions.

Provost Dr. Michael Emerson and Professor Timothy Lin of North Park University (NPU) visited Tunhghai University on January 7th to sign agreements between NPU and THU. The collaboration fields include academic collaborations, student exchange and dual degree program in the Life Science department.
President (Proxy) Dr. Cheng-Tung Lin indicated that through the collaboration both universities would be able to provide their students with combined education resources and jointly achieve better academic goals in serving the younger generation. As a Christian University, Tunghai values both teaching and service. The university motto Truth, Faith, and Deeds are rooted in the education design of our programs. Students develop their sense of responsibility and understand the importance of service through their learning in Tunghai.
Dr. Emerson mentioned that this first visit to Taiwan as well as to Tunghai University was a pleasant one in terms of getting to know the beautiful campus and to immerse him into the tranquil academic atmosphere of Tunghai University.
After the signing of agreements, Dr. Emerson and Dr. Lin visited the department of Life Science and the Chaplin’s office. They were impressed by the complete lab facilities THU offers for students to do advanced research. The meeting with THU Chaplain Yi-Chun LI and THU students from the Campus fellowship further enhanced the mutual understanding of the two Christian universities and bolstered the intention to collaborate.

On November 1st, 2015, over 1000 alumni of Tunghai University from all over the world returned to Taichung to join a grand anniversary banquet and celebrate the 60th birthday of their alma mater. Together with a number of invited guests from THU partner institutions, old friends met each other with bustling and joyful feelings.
The event started with President proxy Dr. Cheng Tung Lin and Board chairman Mr. Philip Tseng leading the university flag into the venue, followed by alumni association flags of all departments and all regions. When the over 100 flags stood in position, the Tunghai university song was sung out loud by all, as if they returned to their college life. It was a special and touching ceremony to celebrate the anniversary.
Former president Dr. Ko-Wang Mei, president of THU Alumni Association in the greater Los Angeles area Mr. Hsiao-Po Shen, president of THU Alumni Association Hong Kong Mr. Chi-Ka Wong and president of THU Alumni Association Mr. Chu-Pien Yuan spoke on stage to give their birthday blessings to their alma mater. Pastor Yi-Chun Li then led the prayer before the food was served.
During the event, 10 alumni were granted THU Outstanding Alumi Award and 60 saplings of stout camphor trees (Cinnamomum kanehirai ) were donated to THU by honorary president of Tunghai Alumi Association Mr. Ching-Hua Tsai. The saplings would later be planted in the beautiful campus of THU on the university anniversary day.
Accompanying the delicious food was a serious of excellent performances prepared by the Placement & Alumni Office. Alumnus Mr. Tao-Chieh Chen played violin to bring up the joy of celebration; chamber orchestra of department of music continued with beautiful sounds of violin and cello; the Jazz music club which just finished their performance at Taichung Jazz festival gave the performance a splendid ending. Guests enjoyed the performances, the great food and their old THU memories all night long.
With the unusual reunion of THU alumni of all ages, Tunghai University is expected to stride into its next 60 years with greater vision and resilience to develop more talented students and send them onto their prosperous journey of life.

A Memorandum of Understanding and a Student Exchange Agreement were signed by Chiba Institute of Technology Japan and Tunghai University on September 17, represented by President Professor Kazuhito Komiya of Chiba Institute of Technology (CIT) and President Proxy Dr. Cheng-Tung Lin of Tunghai University. President Komiya and Section Chief of the International Relations Section Mr. Toru Doteuchi of CIT visited Tunghai for the signing.
The two universities have come to the agreement of entering into a formal cooperative relationship through collaboration in industrial design projects in the past years. President Komiya indicated that after the establishment of formal partnership, the promotion of student exchange program in different academic fields will expand collaboration scope and benefit students from both universities. It is the common goal of the two universities to educate their students to become global citizens with international prospects.

Since 1997, Providence University and Tunghai University have established a shared traditionof alternately holding joint worship services during the Easter season, to pray for the faculty members and students, the educational duties the universities bear, and the future of our country.

On April 15, 2015, Former President Junhao Wang of Zhejiang University of Finance and Economics (ZUFE) led a delegation, including Dean Huixiong Chen of Business Administration College, Dr. Yaojia Tang of the School of Economics and International Trade and Director Muhong Yu of International Office to visit Tunghai University (THU).

Teh-Yao Wu Humanities Forum was set up to commemorate former THU President Teh-Yao Wu’s great contribution in advocating humanities education, cultivating whole-person talents, and carrying forward the spirit of Tunghai University. Every year, distinguished and well-respected scholars are invited to give speeches to THU faculty and students.
