Morrison Academy Taiwan

Today (4/24), middle schoolers from all Morrison campuses gathered in Taichung for Morrison Academy's annual Middle School Festival, a whole day of fun learning activities and fellowship. Students attended a variety of workshops in which they were able to pursue their interests (the Arts and sports) and interact with teachers and classmates from other campuses.

Some sessions included: Japanese, Jewelry Making, 9 Square, Pickleball, Strategy Board Games, Calligraphy, Rummikub, Watercoloring ...and many others.

The day came to an aptly "festive" end: a large concert featuring orchestra, band, and choir performances entirely by middle schoolers for their fellow middle schoolers!

Life Day at Morrison Academy took place on Wednesday, April 1st. It was a time for all high schoolers from each Morrison campus to gather in Taichung for a day of introspection, growth, openness, and sharing under the title "tbh" (an acronym for "to be honest").

The large-scale event began with a time of worship and one of our keynote speakers, Mr. Chris Stapleton, who spoke candidly about the relationship between faith in God and the unexpected challenges of life. Students then participated in small group discussions, followed by fun activities meant to foster friendship.

After lunch, students attended workshops with spiritual themes. The day closed with a session from our second keynote speaker, Mr. Micah Yoder, who, through humor and sincerity, encouraged students to seek honesty with themselves, with others, and, most importantly, with God.

Throughout the two main sessions, students heard moving testimonies from peers about God’s grace and goodness in times of doubt and struggle.

Special appreciation and recognition to all the many people behind-the-scenes who helped make this happen: all campus chaplains, the worship band, office coordinators, student and staff workshop leaders, all attendees, the technical staff, as well as our two keynote speakers.

Thanks to all who return participate in the games. Alumni Coach's for the evening will be Clive Hsu '96 and Julie Heinsman '81. They will each determine rosters and playing time. The focus for the evening is on everyone enjoying an evening together back in the Morrison gym. Winning always matters but it's not the point of the Alumni Night games. Let smiles reign and good stories prevail.

Morrison Academy's Fall Professional Learning Days (PL Days) has ended. PL Days are annual events held both in the Spring and Fall -- yet the 2-day Fall session hasn't occurred for the past 2 years due to the encroachment of typhoons forcing it to be cancelled!

This year's 2-day session saw staff from Morrison's sister campuses (MAT [Taipei], MACY [Chiayi], MAK [Kaohsiung]) travel to Morrison Taichung. There at its central-most campus, staff worshiped together, collaborated in job-alike sessions, and attended a variety of workshops addressing spiritual and educational issues and beyond. Over shared meals, sports, and other activities under beautiful skies, a tangible sense of unity was evident and enjoyed by all who participated.

The Fall Break has begun and Morrison Academy prays that all staff, staff families, and students have a restful, restorative one.

A very special thanks for Morrison's Director of Learning, Mr. Chris Stapleton, and his team for all the significant planning and work that went into making this event possible and smooth.

And also a very special thanks to Mrs. Rachel Sawatzky, for her enthusiastic, selfless handling of childcare throughout both days.

With the start of a new school year just on the horizon, Morrison staff attended a day-long, cross-campus professional learning day (PL Day) Friday. Morrison's new Director of Learning, Chris Stapleton, began the day's events with a warm welcoming presentation. He was followed by a touching all-staff devotion titled "Tis' So Sweet to Trust in Jesus" from Superintendent Julie Heinsman. Director of Human Resources, Alicia Edwards, then formally introduced all new staff members at each campus.

After a brief a group activity and group prayer, teachers met throughout the rest of the day in collaborative sessions to discuss curricula, goals for the year, and all things teaching.

It was an eventful day of fellowship, learning about each other, and sharing... and preparing to welcome back Morrison students!
