科學與技術對人類的生活一直有深遠影響，尤其是在數位運算、網際網路、基因、奈米等等科技高度發展與影響我們社會生活的今日。藉由既有之科技與社會研究的研究取徑與案例，本中心提供一個由專業相關領域，接觸人文社會思考與反思的機會。同時希望能夠逐漸擺脫科學是客觀、中立於社會之外的想法，開始思索科技與社會的複雜關連。希望能為理工氣氛濃厚的台聯大校園，甚至是在台灣重理工輕人文的環境中，提供一些融合點，讓我們不再只是科技人，而是更具前瞻性的多元思考與反省能力的「科技—社會人」。
