🎭🚭 FUN WITH TRINITY & FRIENDS: THE SMOKING GAME🚭🎭

In observance of World No To***co Day 2026, the Manzanilla Secondary School Library Media Centre (MSSLMC) proudly partnered with the MSS Writer's Club to present The Smoking Game, an engaging educational puppet show promoting healthy choices and tobacco-free living.

Through colourful characters, humour, storytelling, and meaningful lessons, students explored the dangers of smoking, the influence of peer pressure, and the importance of making positive decisions for a healthier future.

This production also showcased the creativity, teamwork, and performance skills of our talented MSS Writer's Club members, who brought the story and characters to life for their peers.

We extend our sincere thanks to the National Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention Programme (NADAPP) for providing the puppet and story materials that helped make this educational experience possible.

💙FATHER'S DAY: EVERYDAY HEROES💙

This Sunday, we celebrate the fathers, grandfathers, stepfathers, uncles, mentors, and father figures who help guide, support, and encourage us throughout life's journey.

A father's influence is often found in the little things:

🚲 Teaching us how to ride a bike.

📚 Helping with homework.

⚽ Cheering from the sidelines.

🛠️ Fixing what is broken.

💬 Offering advice when we need it most.

❤️ Simply being there.

Fatherhood is not only about providing for a family, it is about showing love, offering guidance, leading by example, and helping young people grow into confident and responsible adults.

Today, we take a moment to recognize the many fathers and father figures whose dedication, sacrifices, and encouragement help shape our homes, schools, communities, and nation.

FLASHBACK FRIDAY

The History of Labour

Every morning, millions of people across Trinidad and Tobago head to work. Teachers enter classrooms. Nurses begin their shifts. Farmers tend their crops. Drivers, builders, librarians, clerks, technicians, and countless others contribute to the life of our nation.

Today, many workplace rights are often taken for granted. Fair wages, regulated working hours, paid leave, safer working conditions, and the ability to join trade unions did not appear overnight.

They were earned.

Behind these rights are generations of workers who faced long hours, difficult conditions, low wages, and uncertainty. Many spoke up when it was risky to do so. Many stood together when it was easier to remain silent.

One of the defining moments in Trinidad and Tobago's labour history occurred on June 19th 1937, when unrest in the oilfields brought national attention to the challenges workers faced. The events of that period would forever change the conversation about workers' rights and labour relations in our country.

Years later, in recognition of the contributions and sacrifices of workers, Labour Day was officially declared a national holiday in 1973.

As we look back today, we honour not only the famous names recorded in history books, but also the ordinary men and women whose determination helped build a fairer society for future generations.

Their struggles helped shape our rights.

Their courage helped shape our nation.

Join us as we explore the milestones, movements, and moments that helped define the history of labour in Trinidad and Tobago.

INTERNATIONAL DAY FOR COUNTERING HATE SPEECH

When we open a book, we open a door to new ideas, new perspectives, and new ways of understanding one another.

Observed annually on June 18, the International Day for Countering Hate Speech reminds us that building respectful and inclusive communities begins with education, dialogue, and understanding. The United Nations emphasizes that promoting tolerance, acceptance, respect for diversity, and cooperation are important tools in countering hate speech and strengthening our communities.

Libraries play an important role in this mission.

Every shelf holds stories from different cultures, backgrounds, experiences, and viewpoints. Through reading, learning, and meaningful conversations, we gain a greater appreciation for the people around us and discover that our differences can be a source of strength rather than division.

The United Nations reminds us that no one is born to hate. Hate is learned, and it can be unlearned through education, critical thinking, and understanding.

Today, let us choose words that uplift rather than divide, conversations that build bridges rather than barriers, and actions that promote kindness, empathy, and respect.

🟥 WORLD DAY AGAINST CHILD LABOUR

Although World Day Against Child Labour was observed on Friday, 12 June, the message remains just as important today.

Every child deserves the opportunity to learn, play, grow, and dream.

Yet around the world, millions of children continue to engage in child labour, with many performing work that is hazardous to their health, safety, and development.

This year's theme, "Red Card to Child Labour: Fair Play for Children, Decent Work for Adults", calls on governments, communities, employers, educators, and families to work together to protect children's rights and create opportunities for every child to reach their full potential.

Just as a referee uses a red card to stop unfair play, we can all raise the red card against child labour.

Did You Know?

• Approximately 138 million children worldwide remain in child labour.
• Agriculture accounts for the largest share of child labour globally.
• Access to quality education is one of the most effective ways to help prevent child labour.

As we reflect on this important observance, let us remember a simple but powerful truth:

Children belong in classrooms, on playgrounds, with their families, and pursuing their dreams, not in situations that rob them of their childhood.

MOTIVATIONAL MONDAY

We often admire the finished product, the successful business, the accomplished athlete, the thriving garden, or the towering tree. What we don't always see are the years of effort, learning, mistakes, persistence, and growth that happened along the way.

Growth rarely happens overnight. It happens in small moments: reading one more page, learning one new thing, taking one small step toward a goal, or trying again after a setback.

Like the mighty tree, growth begins long before anyone notices. A seed must first take root beneath the soil. It must weather storms, endure dry seasons, and continue reaching toward the light. Over time, those unseen efforts become strength, resilience, and growth.

The same is true for us.

While growth takes time, it also requires action. The perfect moment may never come, and the perfect plan may never exist. Sometimes, the most important step is simply to begin.

As you start this new week, challenge yourself to take one small step toward something you've been putting off. It may not seem like much today, but small, consistent actions have a way of growing into something extraordinary.

🌱 Keep learning.
🌿 Keep trying.
🌳 Keep growing.
