You are not targeted for what you hold. You are targeted for what you repeat.

Somebody watching your business is not counting money. They are learning a routine: same person, same bag, same door, same hour. Once that is known, the rest is easy for them.

Break the pattern and you take away the plan.

✅ Vary the time. A fixed hour is a fixed target.
✅ Vary the route, and vary who goes.
✅ A plain bag. Nothing that announces itself.
✅ Never look like you are carrying.

There is more to it than a list, and we keep that part off the internet on purpose. Anything posted publicly can be read by the same people it is meant to protect you from. We go through the rest privately, with the client.

Term starts next week, and the first few days are when the routines get set. Nobody has time to think about them, which is exactly why they are worth five minutes now.

Five things worth agreeing with your child before the first morning:

✅ Who collects them, and what happens if that person is late. Decide it now, so the answer is never worked out on the spot.
✅ The safe place to wait. Name it, and use the same one every time.
✅ The route, not just the destination. Walk it with them once.
✅ One number they know by heart. Not saved in a phone, known. A child who can recite a number can be helped by anybody. A child whose number is only in a phone cannot be helped once the phone is flat.
✅ The word that means come home now, no questions. Agree it, and never use it for anything else.

None of it takes longer than the drive to school.

✅ Check the back. Everybody locks the front door, and forgets the back door and the back windows.
✅ Move the spare key. If it lives under something beside the door, it is not hidden. Leave it with somebody you trust instead.
✅ Take one look from the road. Whatever you can see from out there, anybody passing can see too.

Every security company will tell you its officers are professional. Here is how you check.

Before you sign with anyone, ask to see two things:

🛡️ Its approval under the Ministry of Homeland Security. That standing is the floor a serious company builds on, and it should be shown to you without hesitation.
🛡️ How its officers are vetted and trained. Who did the background check? What does an officer learn before their first shift, and what do they keep learning after it?

A guest who feels watched is uncomfortable. A guest who feels unsafe does not come back. Hospitality security is the craft of solving the second without causing the first.

This week's article is for Tobago's hotels, guesthouses and villas, and it comes down to four things worth asking of any security arrangement:

🛡️ Presence that fits the property. A visible officer at the gate is reassurance; a visible officer at the poolside is a mood killer. Where each one stands is a design decision, not an accident.
🛡️ People who fit the welcome. Vetted, trained officers who understand they are part of a guest's stay, approved under the Ministry of Homeland Security.
🛡️ Cover that follows the property's rhythm: check-in hours, event nights, the quiet hours after the bar closes.
🛡️ A report you actually receive, so the property knows what happened on its own compound.

Camera footage is how you find out what happened. An officer is how it stops happening.

CCTV matters. It deters, it documents, and when something goes wrong it is the record you will rely on. But a recording cannot step in, and it cannot make a judgement at half past two in the morning.

🛡️ A camera covers its angle. An officer walks the whole compound.
🛡️ A camera notices nothing. An officer notices the gate that should not be open and the vehicle that has passed three times.
🛡️ A camera reports in the morning. A patrol is the response happening now.

The strongest sites in Tobago run both: cameras for the record, officers and mobile patrols for the response. If your business currently runs on cameras alone, the second half of that sentence is worth a conversation.
