UWI Global Campus Guild of Students

BACKGROUND ON THE GLOBAL CAMPUS (formally Open Campus)

The University of the West Indies Global Campus (UWIGC) is the second youngest campus of The University of the West Indies and was formally launched in 2008. It is a fully accredited institution that offers multi-mode teaching and learning services through virtual and physical site locations across sixteen (16) countries and over forty-two (4

2) sites. The UWI GC has developed a unique approach in enhancing the student experience in:

• Professional Education
• Under-graduate
• Post-graduate
• Continuing education study programmes and courses

STRUCTURE OF THE GLOBAL CAMPUS GUILD OF STUDENTS

The UWGC Guild of Students was officially established in 2009 and to date, is still building a foundation on which a fully functional guild would be established. There are over forty-two (42) sites that make up the student population and each site is allowed to have a Guild Chapter and an elected Executive Body which includes a:

- Chapter Chair
NB: All Chapter Chairs then form the Guild Council

The Guild Executive is elected by the Guild Council and starts its term on June 1st of each year. The UWI Global Campus currently boasts, approximately over five thousand (5000) students. THE GLOBAL CAMPUS GUILD OF STUDENTS

As the second youngest Student Guild of The University of the West Indies, The Global Campus Guild of Students has experienced some of the challenges that many new institutions experience and is proud to declare that we have successfully survived the teething process that destroys many student bodies. THE GLOBAL CAMPUS GUILD OF STUDENTS Goals are;

• To further engage the student body and increase student interest in the Guild of Students

• To improve reporting strategies and accountably to the University by the Guild of Students

• To create codes and policies that will effectively govern the operation of the Guild of Students
