What a term! Our Form 5s on the home stretch to exams in May and our Form 3s are preparing to make subject selections for Form 4 & 5.

It has been a busy, short term but thankfully we had the opportunity to discuss two powerful calypsoes. Calypso is similar to poetry, it can be analyzed and interpreted in many ways. We spent an enlightening afternoon a few weeks ago understanding the messages of these two pieces.

We also discussed the calypsonians and their journey. We focused on the life of Romel Lezama, a YTC inmate who wrote a powerful piece about his life story.

At the end of the session students were asked to complete Romel’s story.

In 2018/2019, we started doing school visits specifically for students attending our Homework and Revision after school program.

Last week, school visits began, first stop St. Anthony’s College. This student is in Form 3 and he attends our sessions virtually.

These school visits assist in getting a firsthand account of how each student is performing academically and otherwise, help to create a relationship with teachers to the benefit of the student and put a look on each student’s face that is priceless 😅(they never believe me when I tell them I’ll be visiting their schools).

Call me The Minister of Empowerment!
