El Alma de Parranda (The Soul of Parang), a Parang Training Institute dedicated to the preservation, teaching, and growth of the Parang art form in Trinidad and Tobago.

El Alma de Parranda is the first institution of its kind and formalizes over 35 years of work with the nation’s youth.

The institute is lovingly dedicated to the memory of the late Wayne Jagdeo, leader of
the renowned band Los Alumnos de San Juan. Wayne’s life reflected service, culture, and community
spirit.

Los Alumnos de San Juan was born at San Juan North Secondary School, and this year we celebrate 40 years of service to the citizens of Trinidad and Tobago. I now proudly lead this band where my service began, and I continue this mission through El Alma de Parranda.

Our vision is to strengthen this sacred and cultural link by creating a space where young people and families can grow not only musically, but spiritually and socially.

Through Parang, we promote discipline, respect, teamwork, and positive values rooted in our Christian faith.

At El Alma de Parranda, people of all ages can learn:
• Parang instruments (Cuatro, Maracas, Box Bass, Guitar, Mandolin, Percussion, Steelpan)
• Parang dance and Spanish language through music
• Composition of Parang songs, many reflecting faith and Scripture
• Groups and choir training
• The history and heritage of Parang rooted in our Hispanic and Catholic tradition
