In this lesson, my Doodlebugs focused on line as they drew their very own self-portrait in an underwater scene surrounded by bubbles! This was one of our trickier draw-alongs so I was particularly pleased to see that so many of my kiddos were very successful. In addition to drawing the body from a different perspective,Β they also got to explore different painting techniques and tricks to create that gorgeous water and the delightful bubbles!

Happy Indian Arrival Day! We had a lively discussion about the contribution of the East Indians to Trinidad and Tobago and my kiddos did not disappoint.Β A few of my little ones even knew the year they first arrived! My Picassos focused on the indentured labourers and my Doodlebugs painted the Fatel Razack.. focusing on that first journey from India. Underscoring the importance of these national holidays will always be important because it makes us who we are as a people and we Trinidadians are worth celebrating!

PIRANHAS are carnivorous (meat-eating) fish. Their diet includes other fish, insects, birds, lizards and rodents. Piranhas are fresh-water fish that live in some South American rivers, including the Amazon river and its tributaries that run through the Amazon rainforest. In addition to their sharp teeth, piranhas have an extremely strong bite. The kids listened to Piranhas Donβt Eat Bananas by Aaron Blabey and they absolutely loved it. Most didn't know the term carnivorous before, but after this lesson they sure did! It stars Brian the piranha who swims against the current of normal piranha culture because he loves eating fruit... they giggled from start to finish!
They followed steps to draw the piranha and we talked about choosing an expression for its face. They coloured in using chalk pastels which is a lovely material for adding bright colours but they had to be careful not to smudge. π

These macaws were such a joy to watch come together. The Picassos drew from observation and then experimented with various techniques to get different effects. I challenged them to think about how they could use their brushes to create that feathery look. Very fun π

Happy Mother's Day to the Doodlebug mamas! They worked their fine motor skills creasing these fans to make their lovely bouquets. They stamped flowers and brought the whole thing together. And of course made it to the car sheilding their masterpieces so you'd get a nice surprise this morning! π
