Today, the St. Joseph’s Convent, San Fernando Past Pupils' Association family joins the nation in celebrating Indian Arrival Day. We pause to honor the incredible resilience, strength, and legacy of the "Jahajis" (People of the Ship) who braved a grueling 100-day journey across the kālā pānī to build a life on our shores.

Throughout history, the courageous movement of people searching and striving for a better life is what built our world. The story of our ancestors is a testament to that global truth, proving that hope and human determination can cross any ocean and plant deep, beautiful roots in a new land.

To our SJC sisters, staff, alumnae, and the wider Indian community, the faith, traditions, and determination brought by those early ancestors have profoundly shaped our identity as a school and a nation. Your heritage is a vital, vibrant thread in the beautiful fabric of Trinidad and Tobago.May we continue to grow together in unity, knowledge, and mutual respect.

The St. Andrew Kaggwa Vistabella 2026 finisher medal bridges a powerful history that spans centuries and continents, connecting the courage of 19th-century Uganda to the heart of Vistabella, San Fernando.

The Saint Behind the Name
Saint Andrew Kaggwa was a young Ugandan catechist who spread his faith with fierce conviction. In 1886, when ordered by Mwanga II of Buganda to renounce his belief, he chose ex*****on over compromise. Canonized in 1964, he remains an eternal symbol of unwavering belief, teaching, and sacrifice. The African drums on our medal honor this deep, sacred heritage.

A Home Built on Community:

That same spirit of conviction shaped the local church. Long before the church building was formally consecrated on June 14th, 2011, early masses were kept alive through the hospitality of the Vistabella Community Centre and St. John’s College. The church silhouette on the medal reminds us of the collective effort, sacrifice, and community love that built our home.

On Saturday, June 6th, the run celebrates this legacy and the funds go towards sustaining it.
