One of the best parts of living in the 🇹🇹 is having a number of options for We're also thankful that one such option is realitivly close to our farm.

Beach days are great for family time and the 🌊 at the waters edge and ⛱️ are great for for the Collect 🐚🐚🐚 while the shore and looking at the Build 🏰 or with seaweed hair. It's all great 🏖️

Between eczema outbreaks, sorting out our manure challenges and general maintenance, we've been absent from social media for a bit. Today however, we were able to pause and slowly sip some sensational peel tea from our very first oranges. With a touch of and our favourite books in hand, it was a truly satisfying moment.

Our top request has been for a home tour. As it turns out, it may be easier to build a second home than to get a moment where our space is picture ready. Either way, we didn't want to wait any longer. . .

So we'll share some of the few (almost) decent pictures we have. This is our main living space:

Efficient is a struggle for us. Most of our items are still boxed up in the loft. It's clear that we still have to and . We're waiting to DIY our kitchen shelves and dining table.

Recently Clarissa, one of our , stopped suddenly. It was a sad and unnerving moment for us as new chicken owners. It was a stark reminder of how little our schooling taught us about the natural cycles involved in producing a food we consume almost everyday. We have since learnt that the problem was psychological and we've made the necessary changes. Our first month with the new flock is almost over and so far it's been great. We've made many mistakes (like the location we chose for the coop, and using sawdust mixed with cedar) which means we're that much wiser already. 😊 It's a new week and we're ready to fail and learn some more.

A few people have asked us about the legality of in 🇹🇹 . The short answer is YES they are . While we are certainly not experts, we have learnt a few things from our journey.

Here are a few bits to consider if you're thinking about going tiny:

💵Finances: how do you plan to fund this venture? If you are able to self-finance then great! But if you're borrowing to build the bank will most likely require Town and Country planning permission (a whole process on its own that isn't tiny house friendly).

🌎Location: where are you building/parking your tiny home? Land is very expensive. Agricultural land is cheaper but commercial banks do not lend for purchase of agricultural land (you'll have to go to the Agricultural Development Bank).

🏠Design considerations: Like many others we were inspired by watching hundreds of tiny house videos online. But A LOT of what we see does not meet with local building code requirements. For instance - composting toilets or sleeping areas with a height of less than 7.8 ft. (2.4m) are NOT permitted. Mobile homes are also not able to get approval as a dwelling.

Building tiny in Trinidad and Tobago can be done, but it'll take some grit to get it done if you're borrowing to build or don't already have land. Do your research and be your own advocate. There are several antiquated requirements for final approvals that you can move pass if you appeal - like 3 ft. concrete skirting around the dwelling and drains for water run off. We were able to negotiate our way out of this by clearly presenting our water catchment system and other design features to clean and reuse our roof run-off water.

🌧️ like the ones we've been having are great for teaching the about the

One of our favorite is our made from felt of course. We use to attach the lables for the different parts of the cycle. It's loads of fun and when it's wet outside a great that helps the kids appreciate what's happening outside in that moment.

Felt can be used for few other learning tools/ activities. will soon be offering these learning tools. So stay tuned for more details.
