Liberal, Secular and Rational Islam as adopted by the the Muslim scientists like Averroes, Avicenna Why Hanafi-Mutazilah-Maturidi?
This page is dedicated to research, discussion and possible revival of Secular and Liberal Islam which was understood and followed by the great Muslim scientists/scholars and illustrious philosophers that produced the Golden Age which made Muslims lead the world through their philosophies, technology and innovation. All the muslim scientists/philosophers/physicists/chemists were either Hanafi-Matu
ridi or Hanafi-Mutazilites. "Mankind must also know that the feeling which prompts him NOT to think is nothing but a devilish delusion. Because neglecting ones intellect can only be the work of the devil and its purpose is to prevent mankind from utilizing his mind and to scare him from using this divine trust (aql) that allows him to take its advantage to reach his goals."
-- Maturidi, The Book of Tawheed
Since the dominant İslamic Seminaries in İndian subcontinent identify themselves as Hanafi in Fiqh and Maturidi in Creed however they just follow them in name only. That's why it's critical to revive and understand our original teachings.
İmam e Azam Abu Hanifa (also known as the İmam of Ahle Ray ) established his school of Jurisprudence (Fiqh) but he did not emphasized on the Creed (Akidah). İmam Maturidi who ascribed to Hanafi's teachings expounded his Fiqh greatly.
İmam Maturidi not only wrote book on Tawheed but also on Creed, Exegesis and Usul-al-fiqh ( Fundamentals of Jurisprudence ). Thus Hanafi-Maturidi school, also known in Turkish academia Eastern Hanafi school, spread their thoughts to Central Asia. All of the Turkish nations ascribed to it and did ijtihad accordingly. With the rise of highly successful, progressive, liberal and pluralist Turkic Empires like Seljuks, Khwarezmians, Timurid-Mughals etc the Hanafi-Mutazila-Maturidi school was spread in most of the Muslim world except Africa. Few important highlights of Hanafi-Mutazilah-Maturidi school:
>Iman-Amal and Deen-Siyaset separation
>Aqil-Nakl Fiqh
>Reason being the final arbiter
>İn Fiqh only two sources of Knowledge - Reason (Aql) and Narrative (Sam).
>Separation of Universal Dini/İman/beliefs from dynamic Socio-political-economic laws.
>Careful examination of Hadith literature as opposed to blind following.
>Both Ahad (Singular) and Mutawatir (Multiple) hadiths have the possibility of both error and lie.
>Aql or reason being the final decisive factor in determining the authenticity of the hadith if it is really a word of Muhammed (pbuh). Such Hadiths are classified as Khabar min al-Rasul.
>Emphasis on purity of heart via Tasawwuf (Sufism).
