Modern demografinin en önemli ve en etkili şahsiyetlerinden biri olan Prof. Dr. Dick van de Kaa’yı 22 Mayıs 2026 tarihinde kaybettik. İkinci Demografik Dönüşüm Teorisinin temel argümanlarını ortaya koyarak, son birkaç demograf kuşağı üzerinde önemli izler bırakan Prof. Dr. Dick van de Kaa’yı rahmetle anıyor ve demografi bilimine olan katkıları nedeniyle kendisine şükranlarımızı sunuyoruz.

Prof. Dr. Dick J. van de Kaa (5 January 1933 – 22 May 2026)

We have lost one of the most important and influential figures of modern demography, Prof. Dr. Dick J. van de Kaa, on 22 May 2026. By laying out the fundamental arguments of the Second Demographic Transition Theory, Prof. Dr. Dick J. van de Kaa left a lasting mark on several generations of demographers. We remember him with deep respect and express our heartfelt gratitude for his invaluable contributions to the science of demography.

In the next Demography Conference, we turn to a key question in life-course research.

When do young people in Europe leave education, enter work, form partnerships, and start families? And are these pathways becoming more diverse, or are new patterns of adulthood emerging across countries?

We are pleased to welcome Asst. Prof. Dr. Zafer Büyükkeçeci from Koç University, Department of Sociology, who will present:

“Temporal and Cross-Country (Dis)similarities in Transition to Adulthood: A Comparison of 23 European Countries”

Using data from the European Social Survey and a life-course perspective, the talk explores how work and family trajectories unfold across cohorts and countries.
