NIMT Welcomes ITDI Philippines for Technical Exchange Visit
Pol. Lt. Gen. Pornchai Suteerakune, Director of NIMT, warmly welcomed Engr. Ma. Nazarene M. Baculanta from the National Metrology Laboratory of the Philippines, Industrial Technology Development Institute (ITDI), Department of Science and Technology, Philippines, during her visit from 10–12 March 2026.
The visit was organized as part of a technical exchange program aimed at strengthening collaboration between national metrology institutes. A key highlight of the program was the witnessing of an actual measurement comparison for an infusion pump analyzer. This activity forms an important component of bilateral comparison efforts, which are essential for establishing international equivalence and demonstrating technical competence in measurement standards.
During the visit, Engr. Baculanta participated in technical discussions and observed laboratory procedures related to measurement practices, traceability, and uncertainty evaluation. The program also included the hand-carry and handling of measurement artifacts, such as volumetric glassware, piston pipettes (POVA), and the infusion pump analyzer used in the comparison.
NIMT provided full technical support and facilities to ensure a productive exchange. The visit not only enhanced mutual understanding of measurement systems and practices but also contributed to aligning both institutions with international best practices.
This engagement reflects the continued commitment of NIMT and ITDI to strengthening regional cooperation and advancing metrological capabilities through knowledge sharing and collaborative activities.

NIMT Welcomes Kyutech and KMUTNB Delegations for Laboratory Visit in Dimensional Metrology
Mr. Anusorn Tonmueanwai, Deputy Director of NIMT, together with the metrologists of the Dimensional Metrology Department, warmly welcomed a delegation from Kyushu Institute of Technology (Kyutech) and King Mongkut’s University of Technology North Bangkok (KMUTNB) on 13 March 2026 at NIMT.
The visiting delegation was led by Emeritus Prof. Dr. Keiichi Kimura, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Panart Khajornrungruang, and Dr. Thitipat Permpatdechakul from Kyutech, along with Asst. Prof. Dr. Aran Blattler, Asst. Prof. Dr. Teppakorn Sittiwanchai, and Asst. Prof. Dr. Natthapon Bun-a-thuek from KMUTNB. The purpose of the visit was to bring Kyutech students to explore and gain first-hand experience in advanced dimensional metrology laboratories at NIMT.
During the visit, the students were introduced to NIMT’s capabilities in dimensional measurement, including primary standards for length, form, and surface metrology. The activity provided a valuable opportunity for academic exchange and helped strengthen collaboration between NIMT and partner universities in advancing metrology education and research.

NIMT Expert Provides Technical Consultancy on Chemical Metrology in Bangladesh
Dr. Kittiya Shearman, Head of the Chemical Metrology and Biometry Department from the National Institute of Metrology (Thailand) (NIMT), undertook an international mission to serve as a technical consultant in the field of chemical metrology during 15–18 March 2026 at the Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI). The mission was carried out in collaboration with the British Standards Institution (BSI) to support the development of the National Metrology Laboratory (NML) of BSTI.
The activities were structured to combine both theoretical and practical engagement. On 15–16 March, classroom training sessions on chemical metrology were conducted, providing participants with fundamental knowledge and practical understanding. On 17 March, a consultation meeting was held with senior officials of NML-BSTI to discuss technical challenges and future development directions. The mission concluded on 18 March with a laboratory visit at BSTI, allowing for on-site assessment and targeted technical recommendations.
During the program, Dr. Kittiya delivered a series of technical lectures and training sessions covering key topics, including the following:
- Metrology in Chemistry
- Metrological Traceability in Chemistry
- Method Validation
- Measurement Uncertainty
- ISO 17034 and related standards
In addition to the lectures, the program provided a platform for knowledge exchange, enabling BSTI staff and participants to gain practical insights and international best practices in chemical metrology. Dr. Kittiya also offered expert guidance and recommendations to support the enhancement of BSTI’s measurement capabilities and laboratory performance.

NIMT Expert Provides Technical Consultancy on Pressure Metrology in Bangladesh
Mr. Likit Sainoo, Senior Professional Metrologist from NIMT, undertook an international mission to serve as a technical consultant in the field of pressure metrology from 8–12 March 2026 at the Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI), in collaboration with the British Standards Institution (BSI), to support the development of the National Metrology Laboratory (NML) of BSTI.
During the mission, Mr. Likit played a key role as a pressure expert in conducting a Pre-Peer Review and Technical Training Program for the Pressure Laboratory. The primary objective was to assess the laboratory’s readiness for international recognition, including evaluation of instrumentation and calibration systems, personnel competency, data analysis and uncertainty evaluation, reporting procedures, and laboratory environmental conditions.
In addition, he provided technical consultancy on pressure calibration in accordance with the internationally recognized DKD R6-1 guideline, covering the use of both pressure balances and pressure calibrators as reference standards. The program also included hands-on training sessions on calibration techniques for various instruments, such as digital pressure gauges, barometers, and electrical pressure gauges, as well as practical exercises on data processing, uncertainty estimation, and result analysis.
Furthermore, Mr. Likit facilitated a measurement comparison activity under the scheme NIMT.M.P-H2.6 for hydraulic gauge pressure in the range of 70 to 700 bar, contributing to strengthening measurement traceability and international comparability.
The engagement also included workshops and knowledge-sharing sessions with NML-BSTI staff across different technical areas, enhancing their practical skills and understanding of pressure calibration systems.
This mission has significantly contributed to strengthening the technical capabilities of BSTI, supporting its readiness for international peer evaluation and improving national calibration services. At the same time, it reinforces NIMT’s role in advancing regional and international cooperation in metrology, enhancing recognition among National Metrology Institutes (NMIs), and promoting sustainable development of measurement infrastructure.

NIMT Expert Represents Thailand as Invited Speaker at EURAMET Workshop on Dynamic Measurements in Sweden
Dr. Jeerasak Pitakarnnop, Senior Professional Metrologist from NIMT, represented Thailand in participating and delivering a technical presentation at the EURAMET Technical Committee for Mass and Related Quantities (TC-M) Workshop on Dynamic Measurements of Mechanical Quantities, held during 3–4 March 2026 in Sweden. He attended the workshop as an Invited Speaker, reflecting international recognition of his expertise in dynamic pressure metrology.
Dr. Jeerasak was nominated through the Asia Pacific Metrology Programme (APMP) TC-M, following EURAMET’s request for experts in the field of dynamic pressure. His selection highlights both his individual expertise and NIMT’s growing international role in advanced metrology research.
At the workshop, Dr. Jeerasak presented his work titled “Pressure Step and Shock Front Prediction Using CFD Simulations," contributing to the session on dynamic pressure. His research focuses on the development of primary standards for dynamic pressure based on shock tube techniques, which have previously been presented at international platforms such as IMEKO and published in the journal Measurement. This work has been supported by national research funding and represents a significant advancement in Thailand’s metrology capabilities.
The shock tube-based system developed by NIMT serves not only as a primary standard for dynamic pressure but also has broader applications in emerging fields. These include studies on green, carbon-free fuels such as hydrogen and ammonia, as well as investigations into combustion processes, carbon emissions, and chemical reaction kinetics of hydrocarbon fuels. These applications align with global priorities on carbon reduction and sustainable energy development.
In addition to the workshop sessions, Dr. Jeerasak also participated in technical discussions and a laboratory visit under the RISE–NIMT bilateral collaboration framework, further enhancing cooperation between the two institutes.
Dr. Jeerasak’s role as an invited speaker not only showcases the technical capabilities of NIMT on the global stage but also contributes to strengthening Thailand’s position in advanced metrology. The outcomes of this participation are expected to support national development in key sectors such as energy, next-generation automotive technologies, carbon management policies, and the emerging space economy.

NIMT Experts Contribute to Global Discussions on Metrology and Digitalization at FORUM-MD 2026, France
Dr. Jariya Buajarern, Expert Metrologist, as Chair of CCL-TG-DIG, together with Dr. Narin Chanthawong, Group Leader of Nano Metrology from NIMT, represented Thailand at the 3rd Meeting of the Forum on Metrology and Digitalization (FORUM-MD) held from 9–13 March 2026 in France.
The meeting, hosted at the International Bureau of Weights and Measures (BIPM) headquarters in Sèvres, France, brought together leading representatives from national metrology institutes and international organizations to advance global collaboration in digital transformation within the field of metrology.
The FORUM-MD program comprised a series of technical sessions, including Working Group, Task Group, and Discussion Group meetings (9–10 March), followed by a specialized workshop on “AI in a metrology context: AI for metrology and metrology for AI” (11 March), and culminating in the plenary meeting held on 12–13 March 2026.
Key agenda items during the plenary meeting included updates from the International Committee for Weights and Measures (CIPM) and BIPM, progress on the BIPM Roadmap on Digitalization, reports from various working and task groups, and discussions on the governance and future direction of FORUM-MD.
In this important international forum, Dr. Narin Chanthawong was selected as the Chair of the FORUM-MD Task Group on Harmonizing DCC and DRMC. This appointment reflects international recognition of Thailand’s expertise and active role in advancing digital metrology.
The participation and leadership roles of NIMT experts in FORUM-MD not only strengthen Thailand’s presence in the global metrology community but also support the institute’s strategic direction toward digital transformation. The outcomes of this meeting will contribute to enhancing the development and harmonization of digital metrology systems, ensuring alignment with international standards and fostering innovation in measurement science.

NIMT Showcases Leadership on Global Digital Metrology Stage at 6th International DCC Conference
The National Institute of Metrology (Thailand) has reaffirmed its leadership in the international metrology community through its prominent role in the 6th International DCC Conference. Held under the theme "From Good Practice to Standardization: DCC for a Reliable Future," the conference took place as an online event from February 24–26, 2026.
Dr. Jariya Buajarern, Expert Metrologist at NIMT, was honored to serve as the Chair of the International Programme Committee. She delivered the opening welcome address alongside distinguished global metrology leaders, including Dr. Frank Härtig, Vice President of PTB (Germany), and Dr. Stephan Schlamminger, Physicist from NIST (USA). The conference successfully brought together over 600 registered participants from 82 countries to shape the future of digital quality infrastructure.
Representing NIMT’s technical advancements, a research paper titled "Measurement Capability Modeling and SI-Compliant Unit Representation for Digital Calibration Certificates" was presented by Miss Praiya Thongluang, researcher of the digital transformation center of NIMT. This work details the enhancement of NIMT’s DCC Web Portal, which now supports advanced measurement capability modeling. A significant contribution of this architecture is the development of a CMC Database and a Scope of Accreditation Database. These databases provide a formal, machine-interpretable digital representation of laboratory capabilities, ensuring that generated DCCs are strictly aligned with authorized ranges and institutional trust levels.
Furthermore, NIMT’s framework ensures that unit representation adheres to the SI Digital Framework published by the BIPM. By treating SI prefixes, base units, and exponents as separate semantic components, the system achieves unambiguous and standardized unit encoding. This transition moves metrology from being document-centric to capability-driven, allowing calibration results to be fully machine-readable and interoperable across global data spaces.
The shift from traditional PDF certificates to Digital Calibration Certificates (DCC) is a critical enabler for Industry 4.0. By following FAIR principles (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable), DCCs eliminate manual transcription errors, reduce processing times, and facilitate the automated exchange of trustworthy metrological data.

OAP Recognized as Member of CCRI Section I “Dosimetry”
The National Institute of Metrology (Thailand) (NIMT) congratulates the Office of Atoms for Peace (OAP), Thailand’s Designated Institute in ionizing radiation, on its official acceptance as a member of Section I “Dosimetry” of the Consultative Committee for Ionizing Radiation (CCRI).
The 2025 meeting of CCRI Section I “Dosimetry” was held in Minamisoma City, Fukushima Prefecture, Japan, during 17–18 September 2025. The meeting was hosted with the support of the Fukushima Institute for Research Education and Innovation (F-REI) and the National Metrology Institute of Japan (NMIJ). Approximately 50 participants, including 10 online attendees, convened to review the current status of dosimetry worldwide and to discuss future technical developments in ionizing radiation metrology.
During the meeting, the Committee officially welcomed two new members: OAP (Thailand) and FANR (United Arab Emirates). The inclusion of OAP as a member of CCRI Section I reflects Thailand’s strengthened technical capabilities and international recognition in the field of radiation dosimetry. OAP’s presentation to the Committee further demonstrated the country’s commitment to advancing measurement standards in ionizing radiation and contributing actively to the global metrology community.
As Thailand’s National Metrology Institute, NIMT expresses its sincere congratulations to OAP on this important milestone. OAP’s membership in CCRI Section I enhances Thailand’s visibility and role in the international metrology system, reinforces national measurement infrastructure, and supports the country’s continued development in radiation protection, medical dosimetry, and nuclear applications.

MIKES Expert in Photometry Visits NIMT for Technical Exchange on Quantum-Based Primary Standards
Pol.Lt.Gen. Pornchai Suteerakune, Director of the National Institute of Metrology (Thailand) (NIMT), warmly welcomed Dr. Erkki Ikonen, photometry expert from MIKES, Finland, together with Associate Professor Dr. Thawatchai Techasanan, lighting and electrical engineering specialist from Chulalongkorn University, on the occasion of their visit to NIMT on 29 January 2026.
The visit aimed to foster technical discussions and knowledge exchange with NIMT metrologists on recent developments in optical metrology. Key topics included progress in photometric and radiometric measurements, as well as technical approaches and feasibility in implementing the Predictable Quantum Efficiency Detector (PQED) as a primary standard in place of the conventional cryogenic radiometer.
The delegation also held in-depth discussions with Miss Charuayrat Yaokulbodee, Head of Thermometry and Optical Metrology Department, and Miss Rojana Leecharoen, Senior Metrologist, focusing on the scientific principles, measurement uncertainty, and practical considerations related to PQED-based realization of optical power standards.
In addition, the experts visited the Light and Color Laboratory to observe ongoing research activities and laboratory capabilities. The exchange marked an important step in strengthening international collaboration and advancing Thailand’s optical metrology infrastructure toward quantum-based primary standards.
The meeting reflects NIMT’s continued commitment to enhancing technical excellence and fostering global partnerships in support of innovation and measurement traceability.

NIMT Expert Conducts Time and Frequency Metrology Training at Uzbek National Institute of Metrology (UzNIM)
The National Institute of Metrology (Thailand) (NIMT) further advanced international cooperation in metrology by delivering a comprehensive technical training programme in Time and Frequency Metrology to the Uzbek National Institute of Metrology (UzNIM) from 9–20 February 2026 in Tashkent, Republic of Uzbekistan.
The two-week programme was conducted under the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB) project “Support for the Reform of the National Quality Infrastructure and Development of Services for the Uzbek Economy (Phase II)”, which aims to strengthen national measurement capabilities and quality infrastructure in Uzbekistan.
The training was delivered by Dr. Thayathip Thongtan, Senior Metrologist from NIMT, and focused on enhancing UzNIM’s technical knowledge and practical skills in time and frequency measurements, particularly in the calibration of period meters and frequency counters operating in period measurement mode.
The programme combined in-depth lectures and hands-on workshops covering:
- Fundamental principles of time and frequency metrology
- SI traceability to the second and linkage to UTC time scales
- Systems for period meter calibration
- Determination of period measurement errors
- Development of uncertainty budgets
- Drafting of calibration procedures for period measurements
UzNIM maintains the national time scale, UTC(UZ), and contributes to international time scales through participation in the framework of the International Bureau of Weights and Measures (BIPM). The training further strengthened SI traceability to the second and reinforced the linkage between national standards and international timekeeping systems.
During the mission, detailed discussions were held on measurement uncertainty evaluation, traceability statements, laboratory environmental controls, and the future expansion of period measurement services. UzNIM staff demonstrated strong technical commitment and presented a clear roadmap for extending period calibration services to wider ranges, with full traceability to the SI second and Coordinated Universal Time (UTC).
This technical cooperation served as an important platform for experience sharing between time and frequency experts of NIMT and UzNIM. It contributes directly to capacity building, harmonisation of measurement practices, and the sustainable development of national time and frequency calibration services in Uzbekistan.
The successful completion of the Time and Frequency metrology training marks a significant milestone in strengthening UzNIM’s technical capabilities in period measurement and calibration. It also reaffirms the strong collaborative partnership among NIMT, PTB, and UzNIM, laying a solid foundation for continued cooperation and future joint initiatives in the field of time and frequency metrology.

NIMT Director Welcomes UzNIM Delegates for Electrical Metrology Training
Pol. Lt. Gen. Pornchai Suteerakune, Director of the National Institute of Metrology (Thailand) (NIMT), together with Dr. Monthol Homklintian, Supervisor of the Electrical Metrology Department and Group Leader of Primary Electrical, Time and Frequency Standards, warmly welcomed Mr. Sardor Ikramov and Mr. Ilhomjon Khalilov from the Uzbek National Institute of Metrology (UzNIM) on the occasion of their participation in a technical training program in Electrical Metrology held from 9–20 February 2026 at NIMT.
As part of the program, Mr. Sardor Ikramov attended the course entitled “Calibration of Reference Digital Multimeters (DMM) and Calibrators,” which focused on advanced calibration techniques, traceability to national standards, and best practices in measurement accuracy and uncertainty evaluation. Meanwhile, Mr. Ilhomjon Khalilov participated in the training course “Calibration of Electrical Capacitance and Inductance,” covering calibration methodologies, measurement systems, and practical applications to ensure reliable and internationally recognized measurement results.
The training was delivered by experts from NIMT’s Electrical Metrology Department, combining comprehensive theoretical instruction with hands-on practical sessions to strengthen the participants’ technical competencies and enhance their laboratory capabilities.
This program was implemented under the PTB project “Support to the Reform of the National Quality Infrastructure in Uzbekistan,” in cooperation with Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB). Through this initiative, NIMT provides technical expertise and resource support to contribute to the strengthening of Uzbekistan’s national measurement infrastructure in alignment with international standards.
The successful completion of this training not only enhanced the technical capabilities of UzNIM personnel in electrical metrology but also further reinforced the strong and ongoing partnership among NIMT, PTB, and UzNIM, fostering continued collaboration and future joint initiatives in the field of metrology.
