Asst. Prof. Dr. Amonwan Werathummo, Secretary-General of the Teachers Council of Thailand along with Dr. Suda Suk-um and Asst. Prof. Dr. Phonraphee Thummaphan, Deputy Secretary-General, executives and related staff of the Teachers’ Council of Thailand participated in the Capacity Building for Professional Educators Program 2024, (Batch V), study visit at NITS in Japan from 15th to 20th February 2026, and were warmly welcomed by Mr. Kiyoshi Saito, the vice president of the National Institute for School Teachers and Staff Development (NITS).
The project is a collaboration between the Teachers’ Council of Thailand, National Institute for School Teachers and Staff Development (NITS), and Institute for Research and Development in Teaching Profession for ASEAN, Khon Kaen University (IRDTP) which has been continued for 5 batches with the purpose of promoting professional practice and develop capacities of professional educators on Lesson Study, Classroom Management, and Leadership and strengthen collaboration and set up network on Teacher Professional Development between Thailand and Japan. At this event, Prof.Dr. Narumon Pinyosinwat, Minister of Education, delivered a keynote address to educational organizations, distinguished speakers, and professional educators from both Thailand and Japan. Her message conveyed encouragement and appreciation, aiming to inspire and uplift those in the education profession, while further strengthening collaborative partnerships and fostering closer ties between educational organizations of the two countries.
For Phase 3 of the project, participants included representatives from IRDTP, Khon Kaen University, the Centre of Excellence in Mathematics, Mahidol University, the Equitable Education Fund (EEF) Thailand, Phuket Rajabhat University, and Hiroshima University. Also, the project brought together distinguished speakers and professional educators, with a total of 29 participants.
The activities included lectures from Japanese experts on classroom management, a case study of education of Japan, and group activity. Participants also conducted a study visit and classroom observations at Kasuga Gakuen Compulsory Education School, at elementary and secondary levels, particularly in the Tsukuba Style, Mathematics, and Science classes. The experience concluded with a joint reflection session to develop practical guidelines for applying the acquired knowledge to their respective educational institutions in Thailand, as well as for implementing in Phases 4 and 5 of the project accordingly.
