On January 1st 2025 we completed our 100th school.
This school is a high school built in the village of Own Ton in Mandalay Division.
There is also a 2 floor library and Teacher Accomadation.
This is the same village where we built our very first school in 2005 which is a primary school.

Sand plays a very important part in the construction of a school. It's part of the foundation, it's used in making the bricks and it's part of the mixture in the concrete.
For that reason it is very important that we use the right kind of sand. There are several different kinds of sand, sand which is mixed in with the earth, sea sand, desert sand and fresh water river sand. The only type of sand which is properly suitable for construction purposes is the freshwater river sand. This is not always readily available but nonetheless even if it means trucking it in from a long distance away,it is the only type of sand we ever use .
In the first photo grainy , raw earth sand , and in the second photo smooth and fine freshwater river sand.

22nd. March 2021 With each school we build, Maung Maung Gyi and the crew somehow come up with a new idea to make that next school a little better than the previous one. To give you an example, lately, we've started making our own aluminum frame desks using the first quality teak for the desktoptop. These desks are very strong but they are also lighter in weight which makes it much easier for the children to move them to the side of the classroom each day when it's time to sweep the floor. Plus the teak tops are by far the best type of material for the students to do their schoolwork since teak is the only wood that we know of that does not warp so even over time the desktops still remain flat. The children also really enjoy being in a classroom with clouds on the ceilings . No doubt it makes it easier for them to daydream during class.
Another thing we started doing a while back is to plant young trees in front of each school when we build it so that three to four years down the road when the trees have grown up, during the hot season the children can eat their lunch under their shade.
