PROF. DR. YASUHIKO SAITO
In our remembrance
HART was saddened with the passing of Prof. Dr. Yasuhiko Saito our good friend and a kind supporter of health measurements, the handgrip dynamometers, and the blood pressure monitors. His tirelessness in instructing how to construct and estimate ‘working life expectancy’ at the workshops in Singapore, Paris, and Jakarta during 2023 - 2024 using longitudinal data from countries in Asia under the Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA) –Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) research study on “Promoting Active Ageing in Southeast Asia” has laid the foundation for further research on promoting productive aging or employment opportunities for older persons using evidence-based data.
The hand grip strength data from HART Wave 5 (2024) can be claimed to be the first available data from the national representatives at the community level in Thailand. Prof. Saito and HART were planning to draft a paper on the base-year results for publication. HART will continue to complete the paper to fulfill his plan.
His passing is a great loss to HART. Our heartfelt condolences to his family and friends who had the privileges to collaborate with him.
