🇹🇭When you’re shopping in Thailand, you’ll definitely hear us say prices like these!
Number 1 is a bit special in Thai. When a number starts with 1—whether it’s 100, 1,000, or even 1,000,000—Thai speakers often don’t say หนึ่ง /nueng/.
In this clip, we use 100 baht as an example.
หนึ่ง /nueng/ (low tone) = one (1)
ร้อย /roy/ = hundred (x00)
⭐️Instead of saying “หนึ่งร้อย” /nueng roy/, here’s how it usually goes in everyday Thai:
===นึง /nueng/===
Drop the low tone “nueng” but say it softly with the mid tone at the end instead.
ร้อยนึง /roy nueng/ = 100
⚠️Tones matter! Say นึง with a mid tone (💡Tip: say it softly), not the low tone of หนึ่ง, which would actually mean 101!
===เดียว /diaw/===
เดียว /diaw/ = just; only
ร้อยเดียว /roy diaw/ = Just 100 baht
===ถ้วน /tuan/===
ถ้วน /tuan/ = exactly; no change; round number
Add it after any number to show it’s the exact amount.
It’s often used on receipts or official bills:
100.- ➡️หนึ่งร้อยบาทถ้วน /nueng roy baht tuan/ = 100 baht only
In everyday conversation, people usually just say:
[number] + ถ้วน /tuan/ = Exactly [number]
100➡️ร้อยถ้วน /roy tuan/ = Exactly 100
200➡️สองร้อยถ้วน /sorng roy tuan/
120➡️ร้อยยี่สิบบาทถ้วน /roy yee-sib baht tuan/

You can say ร้อยนึง /roy nueng/ and ร้อยเดียว /roy diaw/, but this rule doesn’t apply to other numbers.
สอง /sorng/ = two (2)
✅สองร้อย /sorng roy/ = two hundred (200)✅
❌ร้อยสอง /roy sorng/❌
❌สองร้อยเดียว /sorng roy diaw/❌
===✏️Note===
Nowadays, a lot of Thais skip the rolled ร /r/ and say it more like ล /l/, just like Korn in the orange shirt!
