How is space inhabited, and what continues to endure within it?
How is belonging formed, negotiated, or unsettled across bodies, landscapes, and memory?
How do structures shape movement through space—and what forms of access do they permit or withhold?
Spacing the Inherent begins from these questions, approaching space not as something given, but as something produced through relations of power, everyday practices, and urban transformation.
Featuring works by Min-Wei Ting, Weerapat Sakolvaree, Maria Estela Paiso, Tanakit Kitsanauyong, Lin Htet Aung, JT Trinidad, and Thuy-Han Nguyen-Chi, the exhibition unfolds through a film installation and Gathering Space—a collaborative platform with Sam Yan Press that extends the exhibition into reading, text, and alternative ways of mapping the city.
Conceived and realized by CPCU (Curatorial Practice, Chulalongkorn University) students.

Early exhibition materials from Project 304 (1996), photographs of Bangkok during its participation in “Cities on the Move 6” (1999), materials from “Sorry for the Inconvenience” and discussions around a city “Under Construction” (2002), issues of the BANG monthly art journal (1997-2001), and film programmes from the Bangkok Experimental Film Festival (BEFF), together with installation views from exhibitions such as “Traces” (2012) and “Missing Links” (2015), reflect shared social and political concerns across Southeast Asia. This trajectory continues through projects such as “The Open World” in Chiang Rai (2023–2024), which opens onto a broader international context.
Fragments of artistic histories, movements of ideas, and shifts within the contemporary art scene remain embedded in these folders, awaiting their return following Asia Art Archive's digitisation and annotation.
Before they are stored again, selected materials, both physical and digital, are brought to the William Warren Library, along with a list of books that have informed Gridthiya Gaweewong’s reading and curatorial practice.
Because what does not appear in the digital realm does not mean it never existed.

MA Curatorial Practice – Fieldtrip 2026: Ratchaburi
On 25 March 2026, students from the MA Curatorial Practice visited Ratchaburi as part of the programme’s experiential learning approach, meeting local artists and learning directly from art communities in the area.
At the first location, students met with renowned multidisciplinary artist Wasinburee Supanichvoraparch at Tao Hong Tai Ceramic Factory. He shared his artistic practice, which spans ceramics, photography, sculpture, installation, and public art. Students also had the opportunity to tour the factory, where he continues to experiment with new ceramic techniques and glaze processes.
The visit then continued to dKunst Art Center and Café, located not far from the first venue. On the ground floor, students visited the workshop space, where he explained that many children and members of the local community regularly come to take part in activities. The second floor is a cozy café decorated with his signature ceramic works, while the third floor features a small gallery with selected artworks currently on display.
The second stop of the trip was Baan Noorg Collaborative Arts and Culture, a non-profit artist-run initiative based in the Nongpho district. Students had a special talk session with jiandyin (Jiradej and Pornpilai Meemalai), the founders, who shared how their work connects local communities — including dairy farmers, monks, and students with international artists and researchers.
The collective focuses on sustainability, cultural identity, and collaboration, and works to bridge the gap between rural communities and contemporary art practices in Ratchaburi.
We would like to sincerely thank all the artists for the warm welcome and for sharing such thoughtful and inspiring conversations with our students throughout the trip. 🌿✨

The Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts, Chulalongkorn University, proudly celebrates the inclusion of Song for the Dead Art Exhibition by Kamol Phaosavasdi in the national art collection of the Office of Contemporary Art and Culture (OCAC).
First presented in 1984, the work stands as a significant site-specific conceptual artwork that integrates performance and installation to critically examine the role of art institutions and challenge the aesthetic frameworks of Modernism. Through anti-aesthetic strategies — including the use of demolition debris, reproduced art imagery, and sound-based sculptural elements — the work created a powerful experiential environment that invited audiences to reconsider perception, knowledge, and artistic canon.
The opening performance became a landmark moment in Thai contemporary art discourse, symbolically marking the transition from Modernism to Postmodernism through performative gestures, the Deflux-Reflux manifesto, and a direct critique of institutional authority within the art world.
The artwork was recently presented in the exhibition AlienAtion: 2025 Acquisitions by the Office of Contemporary Art and Culture, held from November 21 to December 21, 2025, at the Ratchadamnoen Contemporary Art Center. Its inclusion highlights the enduring intellectual and historical value of the work as part of Thailand’s contemporary art heritage.
The Faculty recognizes the importance of preserving and re-presenting seminal contemporary artworks that continue to inform education, research, and critical artistic dialogue both nationally and internationally.

"In Conversation: Tracing 30 Years of the Curatorial Practice of Gridthiya Gaweewong"
Over the past three decades, the curatorial practice of Gridthiya Gaweewong has extended far beyond the exhibition space, unfolding through conversations, relationships, and modes of learning that travel across time and contexts.
This public programme reflects on that trajectory through archival materials and shared memories of assistants, collaborators, students, and an art writer who have worked alongside her. Drawing on the Gridthiya Gaweewong Archive, the discussion explores curatorial practice as a relational and ongoing process.
As part of Asia Art Archive’s public programmes, the conversation examines curating as a form of relationship-building, memory-making, and knowledge production, while tracing key developments in contemporary art in Thailand through the experience of one of its most influential curators.
