Today's Lesson
This Thai lesson we will learn to say Since or From in the Thai language.
Since = ตั้งแต่/dtâng-dtàe/ + time duration up to the present.
Ex.
ฉันอยู่ที่บ้านหลังนี้ตั้งแต่ปี 1997/chán yùu thîi bâan lӑng níi dtâng-dtàe bpii 1997 = I have lived in this house since 1997.
เราแต่งงานตั้งแต่เดือนสิงหาคมที่ปีแล้ว /rao dtàeng-ngaan dtâng-dtàe deuan sing-hӑa-kom thîi -láeo = We’ve been married since last August.
From ......to = ตั้งแต่/dtâng-dtàe/ + time word + thĕung + time word
Ex.
ร้านเปิดตั้งแต่ 9 โมงเช้าถึง 1 ทุ่ม /ráan bpèot dtâng-dtàe 9 mohng-cháao thĕung 1 thȗm/ = The shop is open from 9 a.m to 7 pm

This Thai lesson we will learn to say Since VS From in the Thai language.
Since ตั้งแต่/dtâng-dtàe/ + time duration up to the present.
Ex.
I have lived in this house since 1997.ฉันอยู่ที่บ้านหลังนี้ตั้งแต่ปี 1997/chán yùu thîi bâan lӑng níi dtâng-dtàe bpii 1997
(= 'I moved here in 1997 and I still live here.')
We’ve been married since last August. เราแต่งงานตั้งแต่เดือนสิงหาคมที่ปีแล้ว /rao dtàeng-ngaan dtâng-dtàe deuan sing-hӑa-kom thîi -láeo
(= 'We got married last August and we’re still married.')

Today's lesson
"น่า/nâa/" is a prefix added before verbs and adjective in order to make adjectives describing the thing that causes the emotion. It is equivalent to the suffix “-able” or those adjectives end in “-ing” in the English language.
Example:
น่ากิน/nâa-gin/ = is appetizing / look tasty
อาหารนี้ดูน่ากินมาก/aa-hǎan níi duu nâa-gin mâak/ = This food is very appetizing
น่าอ่าน/nâa-aàn/ = is worth reading / is of enjoyable read
หนังสือเล่มนี้น่าอ่าน/nǎng-sěu lên níi nâa-aàn/ = This book is worth reading
น่าอยู่/nâa-yùu/ = livable
แถวนี้เงียบน่าอยู่จัง/thaeo-níi ngîap nâa-yùu jang/ = This area is very quiet and livable
น่าดู/nâa-duu/ = is worth seeing / is worth watching
หนังเรื่องนี้น่าดูมาก/nǎng rêuang níi nâa-duu mâak/ = This movie is worth watching)
น่าฟัง/nâa-fang/ = is worth listening to
เพลงนี้น่าฟัง/pleeng-níi nâa-fang/ = This song = is worth listening to
น่าตื่นเต้น/nâa-tèun-tên/ = exciting
หนังเรื่องนี้น่าตื่นเต้นมาก/nǎang rêuang níi nâa-tèun-tên mâak/ = This film is very exciting.
น่าเบื่อ/nâa-bèua/ = boring
งานเลี้ยงน่าเบื่อมาก/ngaan-líang nâa-bèua mâak/ = the party is very boring
น่ากลัว/nâa-glua/ = is frightening / is scary
ทำไมเขาดูน่ากลัวจัง/tham-mai káo duu nâa-glua jang/ = Why he looks so scary!!
น่าสนใจ/nâa-sǒn-jai/ = interesting
เรื่องทั้งหมดนี้น่าสนใจ/rêuang tháng mòt nâa-son-jai ná/ = All these stories are interesting

Lesson of the day: ว่า /wâa/.
When using verbs as the conjunction like “say,” “think,” “feel,” etc… you want to use the word ว่า /wâa/ comes in – “main clause + waa (ว่า – that) + subordinate clause“. Here are a few examples:
ผมคิดว่าเมืองไทยร้อนมาก
/pǒm kít wâa meuang-tai ráwn mâak /
I think that Thailand is very hot!
ฉันบอกเขาว่าฉันยุ่ง
chán bawk káo wâa chán yûng
I told him that I was busy
ฉันไม่รู้ว่าเขาจะมาไหม /chán mâi rúu wâa káo jà maa mái/
= I don’t know if he will come.

Word of the day:อยาก /yàak/ = want
อยาก (จะ) /yàak (jà)/ + verb = “want to do something / would like to do something ”
Eg.
- ฉันอยากไปเที่ยวเชียงใหม่ /chán yàak bpai-thîao chaing-mài = I want to go Chiang Mai for a trip.
- ผมอยากเรียนอ่าน-เขียนภาษาไทย /pǒm yàak rian aàn -kiǎn paa-sǎa thai/ = I want to learn reading and writing Thai (language)
- เธออยาก(จะ)เจอเขา /ther yàak(jà) jer kháo/ = She wants to see him
อยากได้ /yàak-dâi/ + Noun = want to get / wish to have something. Used when we want to get something
Eg.
- เธออยากได้รถใหม่ /ther yàak-dâi rót mài/ = She wants a new car
- ฉันอยากได้กระเป๋าใบนั้น /chán yàak-dâi grà-bpǎo bai nán/ I want to get that bag.
- ฉันอยากได้เสื้อสีแดงค่ะ / chán yàak dâI sêua sǐi-daeng kà/ I want to get a red shirt
เอา +Noun = want something (ordering something in a shop). is commonly use for the meaning I want to have
Eg.
- เขาเอาต้มย้ำกุ้ง /káo ao dtôm-yam-gûng / = he wants spicy soup with shrimp
- ผมเอาผัดไทแต่ไม่เอากุ้งครับ/pǒm ao pât-thai dtàe mâi ao gûng/ = I want pàt-thai but don’t want shrimp.
อยากให้ + (sentence) = want something to happen/want someone to do something. Used when you want something to happen or want someone to do something
Eg.
- ฉันอยากให้คุณไปเที่ยวเชียงใหม่กับฉัน /chán yàak-hâi kun bpai-thiao chaing-mài gàp chán/ = I want you to go (for a trip) Chiang-Mai with me.
- เธออยากให้เขาขับรถไปส่งเธอที่บ้าน/ther yâak-hâi káo kàp-rót bpai-sòng ther thîi bâan/ She wants him drive her home.

Lesson Of the day: Yes / No Question
There are four ways to form questions answer by “yes” or “no”
1. …ไหม /mái/ = is put at the end of statements to turn them into questions. To answer “yes” repeat the verb or adjective from the question. For “no” put mâi + verb or adjective from the question.
Example.
🌻คุณอยากไปเที่ยวกับผมไหม /khun yàak bpai-thiao gàp pǒm mái?/ = Do you want to go for a trip with me?
✅อยากไปค่ะ /yàak bpai kà/ = Yes, I want
❎ไม่อยากไปครับ /mái yàak bpai khráp = No, I don’t want
2. …หรือเปล่า /rěu-bplàao/ = put at the end of a statement mean “or not”
Example.
🌻คุณจะไปเชียงใหม่หรือเปล่า /khun jà bpai chaing-mài rěu-bplàao?/ = Will you go to Chiang-mài (or not)?
✅(จะ)ไปค่ะ /bpai khà = Yes, I will (go)
❎(จะ)ไม่ไปครับ /mâi bpai khráp/ = No, I won’t
3. …หรือยัง /rěu-yang/ put at the end of statement mean “Did you…yet / Have you……yet
Example.
🌻คุณกินข้าวเช้าหรือยัง /khun gin khâao-cháao rěu-yang?/ = Did you have breakfast yet? / Have you had breakfast yet?
✅กินแล้วค่ะ /gin láew khà/ = Yes, I have
❎ยังไม่กินครับ / yang-mâi gin khráp = No, I haven’t
4. …หรือไม่, รึไม่ /rěu-mâ, réu-mâi/ = This question word rarely uses in speaking way. There are formal and used mostly to replace “หรือเปล่า /rěu-bplàao/.
