Fish Skin Collagen-Based Eyelash Adhesive: A Natural and Sustainable Cosmetic Innovation.
Inspired by the growing number of consumers experiencing allergic reactions to conventional eyelash adhesives, researchers have developed an innovative fish collagen-based eyelash glue derived from by-products of the fisheries industry. By extracting natural collagen from freshwater fish skin and transforming it into a cosmetic-grade adhesive, the research team has created a safer alternative that helps reduce the risk of eye irritation and allergic reactions. The transparent adhesive is fast-drying, provides strong and long-lasting hold, and is environmentally friendly due to its natural composition and the absence of cyanoacrylate, a chemical commonly associated with allergic responses in eyelash glues. Consumer testing involving more than 80 participants revealed a satisfaction rate exceeding 80 percent across key performance attributes, including adhesion, durability, drying time, and overall user experience. Developed under a Zero Waste concept, the technology adds value to underutilized fish-processing by-products while supporting sustainable resource utilization. The innovation has already been granted utility patent protection and holds strong potential for commercial application. Looking ahead, the research team plans to expand the use of fish-derived collagen into medical applications, including the development of hydrogel-based wound-care products.
