Happy International Women’s day!

Part of the founding values for Baobab Batik was to create sustainable work opportunities for women. Today, 35 years after we first opened our doors, this is still a steering value at the heart of what we do.

Thank you to our amazing team of women for making Baobab Batik what it is!

All our Baobab Batik products are dyed by hand by two dedicated women, Busi and Bonsile.

To dye products requires attention to detail, skill and experience. If the recipe is a few millimeters out the colour will change from how it looked last time we dyed it.

But did you know the temperature and pressure in the air also impacts how the colour will look? We have one colourway we only dye on hot, sunny days!

Visit our workshop to see our process in action. Our book a workshop to try it yourself (minimum 4 pax).

We are back in the workshop and ready for 2026.

We are proud and happy to be creating handcrafted items that can bring beauty and joy to others.

We believe in the handmade, and the positive vibrations this gives to the one making the product and the one receiving it.

We look forward to interacting with and seeing you in 2026!
