Emmanuel Christian University - ECU Joins Yei Community in Welcoming the Vice President of the Republic of South Sudan.

The university, represented by Rev. Simon Lasuba, Deputy Vice Chancellor, who joined H.E. Emmanuel Adil Anthony, Governor of Central Equatoria State, national and state government officials, traditional leaders, youth, women, church leaders, and thousands of citizens who gathered along the streets of Yei extendeding a warm and dignified welcome to H.E. Prof. Dr. James Wani Igga, Vice President of the Republic of South Sudan and Chair of the Economic Cluster, during his visit to the county.

ECU’s participation reflects the University’s commitment to being an active and responsible partner in the development of Yei River County, Central Equatoria State, and South Sudan. As a faith-based institution of higher learning, ECU recognizes that meaningful transformation requires collaboration between government, educational institutions, communities, churches, and other stakeholders.

ECU reaffirmed its willingness to support initiatives that promote peace, unity, education, economic development, responsible leadership, and sustainable transformation.

The recent courtesy visit by Mr. Daniel Ohide, Vice Chancellor of Emmanuel Christian University (ECU), to Prof. Vincent Ogutu, Vice Chancellor of Strathmore University in Nairobi, represents more than a meeting between two university leaders. It reflects a deliberate commitment by ECU to engage, learn, collaborate and position itself within the broader transformation of African higher education.

The conversation explored higher education, transformative leadership, innovation, research, values-based education and the responsibility of universities to produce competent, ethical and globally minded citizens. These are not simply academic priorities, they are foundations for building stronger societies and a more capable Africa.

The meeting reinforces a powerful conviction, African universities become stronger when they learn from one another, share knowledge, deepen research and create partnerships that respond to the real needs of society.

A Life Lived for Christ Leaves an Eternal Legacy~

Positions may fade, possessions may perish, but a life of faith, integrity, compassion, and selfless service continues to inspire generations long after one is gone.

The arrival of the body of Late Canon Martin Chok Ija in his hometown of Tali Payam was more than the return of a beloved son it was a powerful testimony to a life wholly devoted to God and to the service of humanity. The thousands of mourners who gathered to receive him spoke not only of grief, but of deep gratitude for a man whose faith, humility, and unwavering commitment to Christ transformed countless lives.

Canon Martin Chok Ija served faithfully throughout his ministry, becoming a spiritual father, mentor, and source of hope to many. His life reflected the Gospel he preached, reminding us that true greatness is measured not by earthly recognition but by faithful service to God and love for others. His legacy is written in the hearts of the people he encouraged, the families he strengthened, and the communities he served.

As Scripture declares in Matthew 25:23, "Well done, good and faithful servant." These words beautifully capture the life of Canon Martin Chok Ija a servant who remained steadfast in his calling and whose reward is now with the Lord.

The journey of his body from his home to the church, where he was laid to rest, became a solemn procession of honour and thanksgiving. It reflected the profound respect and affection the community held for him, and the enduring influence of a man who chose to live for Christ above all else.

His passing reminds us that a life surrendered to God leaves footprints that time cannot erase. Positions may fade, possessions may perish, but a life of faith, integrity, compassion, and selfless service continues to inspire generations long after one is gone.

As family, friends, the Church, and the wider community continue to mourn, we pray that the Lord will comfort every grieving heart and grant them peace beyond understanding. Though Canon Martin Chok Ija has completed his earthly journey, the light of his witness will continue to shine in the lives of those he touched.

May his faithful example inspire us to live lives of purpose, service, and unwavering devotion to Christ, knowing that a life lived for Him carries an eternal impact on both the Church and the community.

May the soul of Late Canon Martin Chok Ija rest in everlasting peace, and may his legacy continue to bear fruit for generations to come.

‎ With Deep Sorrow and Profound Sympathy
‎ The Management, Staff, Students, and the entire Emmanuel Christian University (ECU) community are deeply saddened to announce the untimely passing of one of our beloved students, Rev Martin Chok Ija.(25/DTH/005)

This heartbreaking loss has touched every member of our university family. We mourn alongside the bereaved family, friends, classmates, and all who knew and loved our departed student. During this time of grief, we stand united in prayer, faith, and compassion, trusting God to grant strength and comfort to all who are affected.

‎ As a university founded on Christian values, we are reminded of the promise in Psalm 34:18: "The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit."
