Real validation does not come from superficial and external values but from living our authentic selves. Identification with those who are great, who are rich, well-known and powerful makes us lose our authentic self.

O women how great are your Faith!
I grapple with the killings that happeneds last Monday morning in South Sudan, wherein 2 sisters, Sister Mary Daniel and Sr. Regina and their 3 companion lay men where brutally shot. The violence and heartlessness is just too much for me. This is not easy to accept specially knowing that these sisters have spent their lives serving South Sudan. However this is the reality of South Sudan that we deal everyday. The reality of opposites. A group of people trying so hard to rebuild the country and its people and the other side opposing every good intention and destroying whatever is left and being rebuild.
When I came to know how Sr. Mary Daniel was kneeling down begging the unknown gun man to spare the sisters and let them go but, receiving no mercy, but rather shot straight in her heart, my tears can’t stop from flowing. She had lived out the name of her congregation the sacred heart. She never lose the faith in her people up to the end, she tried to tapped any mercy and goodness left. This is the sacred heart, never losing hope, never losing faith, never losing love. And this is what we are called for today.
Sr. Regina Roba was shot at the back, I remember she had a back problem. This was one of her worries as she was to work as clinical tutor in CHTI. Nevertheless, she managed well and came to love and enjoy her work in mentoring the future nurses and midwives in South Sudan. She had a motherly heart for our students. She would always worry when she saw the examination papers being given. Thinking the exams are too hard for them, will they pass? Yes, of course they will pass as our tutors would assure her. The exams are taken from the lessons thought to them.Assured of this, she will keep quiet. What I constantly remember from Sr. Regina was her happy disposition and ready smile. Amidst the pressures and tension we experience everyday she was a bright sun shinning in CHTI campus. Now that smile and motherly figure is taken away from us. Our hearts are deeply wounded and grieving for this lose. Yet, we don’t lose hope, we don’t lose faith, we don’t lose the love for South Sudan.
Thank you Sr. Mary Daniel, Thank you Sr. Regina. You have given us examples of how to be servants of the Sacred Heart.

THE CALL
Do you sometimes wonder?
Why you do the job you do?
Did you choose your career?
Or did your job choose you?
Way back before you were born.
God knew there was a need
So, he picked your fertile heart
And planted a caring seed.
Then He waited and He watched.
Knowing before too long.
The desire in you to help others.
Will continue to grow strong.
He guided you throughout life.
Through the courses that you took.
Because you were a chosen one.
You are written in His book.
The caring heart He put in you.
As you put others first.
Leaving only one path to take.
In you there was a thirst.
Not seeking fame or fortune.
Born with a tender touch.
You are who you are meant to be.
That’s why you care so much.
Because caring doesn’t take practice.
Its not something you rehearse.
You answered a special calling
When you became a Nurse.
Happy International Nurses Day…
