Tension and confusion have erupted at the gate of University of Juba after hundreds of students were denied entry to the campus over a new policy barring those who have not cleared their tuition fees from sitting exams.

Police have since been deployed to the scene to contain the situation and prevent any escalation as a large crowd of students gathers outside the main gate.

Eyewitnesses say tensions remain high, with fears that some students could attempt to force their way onto the campus if the standoff continues.
