We are all devastated to hear the news of Fr Andrea's passing this morning. He welcomed us into the Diocese 20 years ago as a father, pastor and friend. Over the years, he continued to be a support and companion for our mission. We had the great joy of welcoming him to Ireland.

His great excitement recently was in visiting our new mission in Aweil, close to his home place.

We are losing a great friend, but gaining an advocate in heaven.

Rest in Peace Fr Andrea 🙏🏿

The exams are over. The holidays are just around the corner. But before we can enjoy our well-deserved break, we had a big cleanup at the primary school today. Thank you for all your hard work.

After 6 months of hard work, 11 primary teachers could finally finish their teacher training courses at the Loreto Education Centre. On Saturday, they received their certificates and are now ready to apply the newly learned skills in their classes. We say thank you for your commitment and eagerness to learn, and wish you well in your important work.

Today we’ve had three reasons to celebrate: Loreto’s 18th birthday, the official welcome for our new students, and, of course, International Labour Day. So, happy birthday, Loreto. A warm welcome to you, Newbies. And a thunderous round of applause for everyone who, day in, day out over the last 18 years, has made and continues to make Loreto what it is today – a fantastic place to learn, live and celebrate.

Loreto offers holistic education. It ensures that everyone has the opportunity to discover and develop their talents. Today, for example, was one such day – the talent show. Whether it was dancing, singing, drawing, poetry, or rap, our students and guests from La Salle School Rumbek, Abukloi Foundation, South Sudan, Bishop Mazzolari Memorial Secondary School - BMMSS, Savannah High School, and Clever Origin High School- COHS, showed off what they are best at. It was a day full of laughter, brilliance and friendship. Thank you to everyone who made this day so special by sharing their talents.

Today, the Loreto Secondary School finally welcomed the new students. This is a special year for us in Loreto Rumbek, as the Aweil students also join us here for their start.

As the students arrived at the compound with their parents and guardians, the school mothers joyfully welcomed them. As in Loreto, every girl is given a school mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who help them to settle in and support each other during the time in school. The school family is very important in Loreto because it helps students feel at home, make friends quickly, and learn what to do in the compound.

We wish the new students all the best as they start their first academic year in secondary school, and thank all the parents for supporting their daughters' education.

This year’s peace pilgrims, together with youth from the diocese, impressively acted out Jesus’ way to the cross today, as they made their pilgrimage through Rumbek town centre. A blessed Good Friday to all.

It’s been an amazing day. The new students from Loreto Aweil met as a group for the first time today and visited the building site of their future school. 🤩
