Today, Save the Children South Sudan was privileged to host several climate change activists from seven different schools in Juba representing environment clubs at their respective schools. The one-day child led climate action workshop focused on empowering children’s leadership on climate change, creating awareness on the impact of climate on education, health and safety and how to integrate climate change into government policy.
During the workshop, children were encouraged to design solutions as key stakeholders fighting to save the planet. They also learnt about the environment, climate crisis and how to assess and reduce risk, prepare and respond to hazards and threats.
The workshop was organized by the Building the Climate Resilience of Children and Communities through the Education Sector (BRACE) Project which is a multi-country initiative funded by the Global Partnership for Education (GPE) and the Green Climate Fund@ (GCF) and implemented by Save the Children in collaboration with National Ministry of General Education and Instruction and consortium Partners.
Through this project SCI works with government, teachers, local partners and donors to develop solutions that climate proof education and promote climate justice by promoting climate resilient learners, climate resilient schools and advocating for policies and financing that support adaptation and resilience in the education sector.

Student Spotlight: Celebrating Outstanding University Admissions
‎
‎The Journalism Club is proud to share the recent university admissions achievements of one of our distinguished alumni, Agot Alier Garang, who served as Head Girl of Juba Diocesan Model Secondary School (JDMSS) from 2023 to 2024.
‎
‎During her time at JDMSS, Agot was known for her leadership, discipline, and active involvement in school life, qualities that have continued to shape her journey beyond secondary school.
‎
‎Agot has been admitted to the University of Wisconsin–Madison in the United States of America, class of 2030, to study Political Science. Notably, she was selected as one of only seven scholars worldwide for a prestigious full-ride scholarship, chosen from a highly competitive international pool of applicants.
‎
‎In addition, she received a fully funded admission to Georgetown University in Qatar as a member of the Class of 2030, where she will pursue a Bachelor of Science in Foreign Service.
‎
‎She has also been admitted to Northwestern University in Qatar, class of 2030, where she was offered a place in the Bachelor of Science program in Communications and Journalism.
‎
‎These achievements are the result of over seven months of dedicated work, including extensive preparation, multiple application submissions, and continuous refinement of essays and supporting materials.
‎
‎Reflecting on her journey, Agot emphasized that the process was not always straightforward, but persistence played a key role. She shared that moments of uncertainty were part of the experience, but staying consistent and seeking support made a difference.
‎
‎Her message to other students is clear: the process is possible for anyone willing to commit to it. She encourages students to begin early, make use of available resources, and remain confident in their individual stories.
‎
‎Coming from a context where access to information and opportunities can be limited, her success highlights what can be achieved with determination and initiative.
‎
‎Agot appreciates the for providing invaluable guidance throughout her application journey. With access to experienced counselors and mentors, she was able to navigate essays, scholarship applications, and decision-making with clarity.
‎
‎She hopes her story can inspire other students to seek out resources, plan carefully, and pursue their goals with persistence.
‎
‎The Journalism Club congratulates her on these accomplishments and celebrates her as a proud example of leadership and excellence from JDMSS.
