OPINION: | Statement on Dilemma and Paradox of being a South Sudanese Citizen of Dinka Descent in South Sudan

The Dinka people in South Sudan face a profound dilemma marked by political coercion and moral contradiction. They are repeatedly told that rebellion is wrong and that opposition to the government is a cause exclusive to other communities, particularly the Nuer. Yet, when Dinka civilians cooperate with the state, they are met not with protection but with abuse: property is seized unlawfully, homes are robbed in broad daylight, and those who speak out are arrested. County authorities offer no remedy, while victims are explicitly warned not to resist even when theft is carried out by men in uniform.

As a result, the Dinka are trapped under an oppressive system where silence is enforced and suffering is normalized. Any form of dissent is branded as rebellion against the SPLM-IG, while loyalty to it demands endurance of injustice without complaint. Conscience is suppressed, truth is penalized, and compliance is mistaken for consent. This paradox, being urged neither to oppose nor to question, yet continuously violated, is the central dilemma confronting the Dinka people in South Sudan today.
