UGANDA ISSUED NEW DIRECTIVES FOR ALL SCHOOLS IN UGANDA.*
The Ministry of Education and Sports has issued new directives to all schools in the country, starting with this last term of 2026.
*1. SCHOOL TOURS*
Schools will no longer take children on any trip unless the school has obtained permission from the parent and from the District Education Officer (DEO), and students must be transported between 6:00am and 6:00pm, and the vehicle transporting them and its driver must have everything required.
*2. TEACHING DURING HOLIDAYS*
Teaching students in any form during holidays has been completely banned, to allow students to get enough rest for the brain.
*3. STUDENTS' TIME AT SCHOOL*
Nursery school hours must start at 8:00am and end at 12:00 noon. Primary and Secondary must start at 8:00am and end at 4:30pm. From Monday to Friday. Holiday periods in all schools must be uniform.
However, schools in the Kampala Metropolitan area, especially boarding schools, have been instructed to give students three different reporting days for the start of the term, to avoid traffic jam especially in the city.
*5. PARTIES IN SCHOOLS*
Parties of all kinds have been banned. A school will organize VD and Speech Day on the same day once a year. And also showing off among students has also been banned. For example; bringing expensive cars, aeroplanes, expensive hairstyles, bringing roasted food or roasted snacks, and such things are prohibited at school among students. And using expensive things in students' campaigns at school, such as Tents, large banners, making music stages or concert stages at school, has been banned.
*6. TEACHERS' DRESS CODE*
Teachers, especially female teachers, have also been banned from wearing clothes that make them look bad / indecent in front of students. All teachers will be provided with Uniforms that give them respect and distinguish them from students.
*7. SIZE OF SCHOOL PREMISES AND HYGIENE*
A Nursery school must be at least on land measuring 50 by 100 feet at minimum. And a Primary school at least half an Acre or an Acre and the school must have enough proper sanitation facilities especially boarding schools.
*8. SCHOOL REQUIREMENTS*
Schools have been banned from asking for excessive requirements such as Cement, Iron sheets, Bricks, Desks and such things that burden parents. And increasing excessive fees, the Ministry has ordered to be stopped especially in private schools. And in Government schools (UPE and USE) school fees have been stopped with immediate effect.
Parents committees (PTA) and Management Committees of UPE and USE schools are prohibited from imposing illegal fees on parents and students.
*9. EXPELLING STUDENTS*
Chasing children or sending them back home at any time during the study period in UPE and USE schools because of fees (School fees) has been banned with immediate effect.
*10. EXAMINATION FEES*
Fees for final exams of P.7, S.4 and S.6 (PLE, UCE, UACE) in UPE and USE schools have been banned with immediate effect.
