WHY DOES LIFE HURT SO MUCH?

A man once asked the Buddha, his eyes tired from carrying too much pain:

“Why does life hurt so much?”

The Buddha looked at him quietly for a long moment.
Not to judge him.
Not to rush an answer.
But to truly understand his suffering.

Then the Buddha pointed toward a river flowing nearby.

“Do you see that river?” he asked softly.

The man nodded.

The Buddha said,

“The water that passed a moment ago is already gone.
And the water you see now will soon disappear too.

Life is the same.
Everything moves.
Everything changes.”

The man frowned.
“Then why does the heart suffer so deeply?”

The Buddha bent down and picked up a small leaf floating near the water.

“When people love something,” he said,
“they try to hold onto it forever.

They want people not to change.
Moments not to end.
Love not to fade.
Life not to move.”

The Buddha gently closed his hand around the leaf.

“But the tighter you hold,” he said,
“the more pain you create for yourself.”

The man lowered his eyes silently.

The Buddha continued:

“You suffer because you believe happiness should stay forever.
You suffer because you resist endings.
You suffer because you try to control what was never yours to control.”

The man whispered softly,
“Then should we stop loving?”

The Buddha smiled gently.

“No.
Love deeply.
But understand that everything is temporary.”

“Enjoy what comes.
Appreciate what stays.
And learn to let go when life asks you to.”

The man sat quietly beside the river for a long time.

Watching the water move without trying to stop it.

And for the first time in many years…
his heart became a little lighter.

Because peace does not come from holding on forever.

It comes from learning how to love fully…
while still allowing life to flow.

I'm 78 years old. Here are 7 lessons I wish someone told me at 25.

If you're under 40, read this right now.

1. Your school lied to you.

12 years. Thousands of hours. Not one class on how money works.

The system wasn't designed to produce investors. It was designed to produce obedient employees who need a paycheck.

My poor dad trusted school. Got the degrees. Died worried about money.

My rich dad asked different questions. Built assets. Died wealthy.

Two educations. One produces employees. The other produces investors. School only teaches one.

2. Your paycheck is not your friend.

Every month that check arrives you relax. Your lifestyle grows to match it. Your debt grows to match it.

Before you know it, you can't live without it.

That is not freedom. That is a leash with direct deposit.

The goal was never a bigger paycheck. The goal was to make the paycheck optional.

3. Bad debt keeps you poor. Good debt makes you rich.

Stay out of debt, save your money, that advice will keep you poor.

Bad debt takes money OUT of your pocket. Good debt puts money IN.

A loan on a rental property where the tenant pays your mortgage — that is good debt.

Same tool. Completely different outcomes. The difference is what you buy with it.

4. Your 20s are not for playing it safe.

The people who fail the most at 25 are usually the ones who win the most at 50.

When you are 25, failure is cheap. No mortgage. No kids. No legacy at risk.

That window does not stay open forever.

The biggest risk is taking no risk at all.

5. A 401k is not investing. It is hoping.

The fund collects fees whether your money grows or not.

If the market crashes you lose. They keep the fees.

Real investing means building financial intelligence. Not hoping.

6. You will become who you spend time with.

Most people take financial advice from people who are not financially free.

Love and financial wisdom are not the same thing.

My rich dad wasn't a blood relative. He was my friend's father. That one relationship changed everything.

7. The most expensive thing in the world is waiting.

A dollar invested at 25 has 40 years to work.

The same dollar invested at 45 has 20 years.

Same dollar. Completely different outcome.

Time is the one thing you cannot buy back.

The cage looks different when you know it's a cage.

And knowing, is where it all begins.
