Dear Students, Parents, and School Administrators,
We regret to inform you that Unity State Schools will not be participating in the upcoming National Debate Championship, organised by Teachers Without Borders Association -TBA from September 5–11, 2026.
Initially, our plan was to host the state qualification rounds to select the best teams to represent our state. BDP made every necessary arrangement to execute this plan, engaging extensively with the Ministry of Education, the Directors of Primary and Secondary Education, and individual school administrations. However, these qualification rounds coincided with the scheduling of second-term examinations across schools.
To adapt, we explored directly selecting four representative teams based on recent friendly debates among six schools: Bentiu Standard Secondary School, Cornerstone Secondary school, Leer Emma Secondary School, Bentiu Complex Secondary school, Secondary, and SS.
Unfortunately, following further consultations with school administrations, it became clear that the remaining timeline is too short to prepare adequately. As a result, we have made the difficult decision to step back from this year's national competition to allow other states to proceed while we focus on future preparation.
On a positive note, BDP is excited to announce that we will host the Bentiu Debate Championship for both primary and secondary schools this coming October 2026. We encourage all schools and debaters to start preparing now.
We extend our sincere appreciation to the Ministry of Education, local school administrations, and Teachers Without Borders for their ongoing support and collaboration. While we will miss the national stage this year, we look forward to coming back stronger next year.
