Coming from a country still facing humanitarian crises, I often meet barriers that limit my advocacy, including visa denials and lack of funding. This year’s COY19 and last year’s 13th UNESCO Youth Forum in Paris were opportunities for me to represent South Sudan and advocate for urgent climate action—yet these doors were closed. The struggle to obtain visas and secure funding not only restricts my access but also limits my community’s voice in global dialogues.
As someone committed to representing my community, it’s discouraging to receive emails that often overlook the voices of those who are most affected by climate change. Every opportunity lost to financial constraints or denied visas feels like another silenced voice, another missed chance to bring my community's urgent needs to the forefront. If diverse voices aren’t at the table, we miss vital perspectives on the issues that affect us all. I’m hopeful that international bodies will create pathways that allow for real representation from regions hardest hit by climate change.

Climate change is severely impacting South Sudan, with rising temperatures and unpredictable weather patterns leading to increased floods and droughts. As of 25 September, flooding has affected over 735,000 people across 38 of South Sudan's 78 counties and the Abyei Administrative Area, according to a UN OCHA report. These extreme events are displacing communities, disrupting agriculture, and fueling resource conflicts, underscoring the urgent need for sustainable practices and climate resilience measures to protect vulnerable populations.

It’s essential for our youth to acquire knowledge about climate change to become future advocates for sustainability. By integrating climate education into school curricula, engaging in community workshops, and leveraging digital resources like online courses, young people can deepen their understanding of environmental issues.

🌟 Happy Labour Day! 🌟
Today, we celebrate the essence of work itself—the dedication, passion, and commitment that infuse every task, from the smallest to the greatest. Whether you're in an office, a factory, a classroom, or the great outdoors, your contributions are invaluable and shape the world around us.
Labour Day isn't just about taking a break; it's about acknowledging the profound impact of every individual's labor. It's about recognizing the dignity inherent in all forms of work and the importance of honoring each person's role in our shared journey.
As we commemorate this day, let's not only celebrate our achievements but also reflect on the challenges that lie ahead. Let's strive for workplaces where everyone is treated with respect and fairness, where diversity is embraced, and where opportunities for growth abound.
Together, let's build a future where work is not just a means to an end but a source of fulfillment, purpose, and empowerment. Here's to the power of labor—together, we can achieve anything!
