FINAL EXHORTATION: ABIDE IN HIM
The testimony has been made clear: is not only the Son of God, but the full revelation of the Father, the only way to life, and the abiding presence of God with His people through the Spirit.
He said, “Let not your heart be troubled.” This was not only for His disciples then, but for all who would believe in Him. In a world filled with fear, uncertainty, and spiritual conflict, this command remains.
Do not be troubled.
Believe in God. Believe also in Him.
For He has gone before us—not to abandon us, but to prepare a place for us. And even now, He has not left us alone. Through His Spirit, He comes to dwell within those who believe, to guide, to strengthen, and to transform.
This is the great mystery:
That Christ is not far off, but near.
Not absent, but present.
Not silent, but speaking within the heart of the believer.
He stands at the door and knocks.
If any man hears His voice and opens, He will come in.
This is the invitation. This is the call.
Not only to believe—but to abide.
Not only to receive—but to obey.
Not only to know—but to live.
For those who love Him will keep His commandments.
And to those who keep His commandments, He gives His Spirit—His own life—to dwell within them.
This is the victory over sin.
This is the power over darkness.
This is the life that overcomes the world.
Therefore, let every reader consider:
Have you believed in Him?
Have you opened the door?
Is Christ dwelling in you?
For in Him alone is life.
In Him alone is peace.
In Him alone is salvation.
And in Him, the troubled heart finds rest.
John 14:1
“Let not your heart be troubled: have faith in God and have faith in me.”
Philippians 2:9
“For this reason God has put him in the highest place and has given to him the name which is greater than every name;”
Philippians 2:10
“So that at the name of Jesus every knee may be bent, of those in heaven and those on earth and those in the underworld,”
Philippians 2:11
“And that every tongue may give witness that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”
Hebrews 1:6
“And again, when he is sending his only Son into the world, he says, Let all the angels of God give him worship.”
I was set up from everlasting, from the beginning, or ever the earth was. AKJV — Proverbs 8:23
According to the book of John 14:1, there is a very, very wonderful verse. In this verse, Christ tells His disciples, “Let not your heart be troubled.” Why did He say this? Because they believed in God, and He told them to believe also in Him.
The disciples were troubled because Christ had spoken to them about His crucifixion, His death, and His resurrection. They became afraid. But Christ comforted them and said, “Do not be afraid.” Why? Because if they believed in God, they must also believe in Him.
The disciples knew that nothing is impossible for God, but they did not yet fully understand that nothing is also impossible for Christ. Christ was telling them that even if He died, He would rise again, and everything He said would surely come to pass. However, the disciples did not yet understand this fully.
Another thing they did not understand was that Christ was ordained by God from everlasting. Before He came into the world, there was already a decree in heaven. God declared that all angels should worship His Son and obey His voice, just as they obey God. Christ was given authority, power, and honor, and He is worthy of worship. The angels understood this, but the disciples did not yet understand it clearly.
That is why Christ said, “You believe in God, believe also in Me.” He wanted them to understand that faith in Him is the same foundation as faith in God.
We also see in the book of Proverbs that Christ was set up from everlasting. He was with the Father before the creation of the world. This shows that Christ is not just a man, but He existed before all things.
John 14:2
“In my Father’s house are rooms enough; if it was not so, would I have said that I am going to make ready a place for you?”
John 14:3
“And if I go and make ready a place for you, I will come back again and will take you to be with me, so that you may be where I am.”
John 14:4
“And you all have knowledge of where I am going, and of the way to it.”
John 14:5
“Thomas said, Lord, we have no knowledge of where you are going; how may we have knowledge of the way?”
John 14:6
“Jesus said to him, I am the true and living way: no one comes to the Father but by me.”I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture.
10 The thief comes not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.
11 I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd gives his life for the sheep. AKJV — John 10:9 – AKJV — John 10:11
24 Then came the Jews round about him, and said to him, How long do you make us to doubt? If you be the Christ, tell us plainly.
25 Jesus answered them, I told you, and you believed not: the works that I do in my Father’ name, they bear witness of me.
26 But you believe not, because you are not of my sheep, as I said to you.
27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:
28 And I give to them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.
29 My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father’ hand.
30 I and my Father are one. AKJV — John 10:24 – AKJV — John 10:30
Christ also said, “I am the door,” and “I am the way.” In John 10, He says that He is the only door and the good shepherd. This means He is the only way to the Father and the only way to salvation. The disciples did not yet fully understand that He is the only shepherd and the only path to heaven.
Christ also revealed the knowledge of the Father. He said, “He who has seen Me has seen the Father.” What does this mean? It means that Christ perfectly reveals God.
John 14:7
“If you had knowledge of me, you would have knowledge of my Father: you have knowledge of him now and have seen him.”
No man has seen God at any time, the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he has declared him. AKJV — John 1:18
Has in these last days spoken to us by his Son, whom he has appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds;
3 Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high: AKJV — Hebrews 1:2 – AKJV — Hebrews 1:3
Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature:
16 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:
30 Then I was by him, as one brought up with him: and I was daily his delight, rejoicing always before him;
31 Rejoicing in the habitable part of his earth; and my delights were with the sons of men. AKJV — Proverbs 8:30 – AKJV — Proverbs 8:31
17 And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.
18 And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence.
19 For it pleased the Father that in him should all fullness dwell;
20 And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things to himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven. AKJV — Colossians 1:15 – AKJV — Colossians 1:20
In John 10, He says, “My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish.” This is the knowledge of the Father—that God gives eternal life and keeps His people secure.
Also, John 1:18 tells us that no man has seen God at any time, but the only begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, has declared Him. This means Christ is the one who reveals the Father. If you know Christ, you know the Father.
The book of Hebrews says that Christ is the brightness of God’s glory and the express image of His person. Colossians also says that Christ is the image of the invisible God. So when you see Christ, you see God—not that they are the same person, but they share the same nature, character, and purpose.
Everything Christ did was the work of the Father. That is why He said, “I am in the Father, and the Father is in Me.” The words He spoke and the works He did were from the Father who was working through Him.
Christ was with the Father before all things. He rejoiced before Him and shared in His work. This shows their close relationship and unity. Christ shares the same divine nature because He is the begotten Son of God.
John 14:8
“Philip said to him, Lord, let us see the Father, and we have need of nothing more.”
John 14:9
“Jesus said to him, Philip, have I been with you all this time, and still you have no knowledge of me? He who has seen me has seen the Father. Why do you say, Let us see the Father?”
John 14:10
“Have you not faith that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words which I say to you, I say not from myself: but the Father who is in me all the time does his works.”
John 14:11
“Have faith that I am in the Father and that the Father is in me: at least, have faith in me because of what I do.”
John 14:12
“Truly I say to you, He who puts his faith in me will do the very works which I do, and he will do greater things than these, because I am going to my Father.”
John 14:13
“And whatever request you make in my name, that I will do, so that the Father may have glory in the Son.”
Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved. AKJV — Acts 4:12
When we understand this truth, nothing should cause us to doubt. Christ has full authority. That is why He says that whatever we ask in His name, it will be done, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
There is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved except the name of Jesus Christ. In His name, believers have power—even to cast out demons and to do mighty works.
Finally, Christ says, “If you love Me, keep My commandments.” This shows that true love for Christ is expressed through obedience.
John 14:14
“If you make any request to me in my name, I will do it.”
And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; AKJV — Mark 16:17
John 14:15
“If you have love for me, you will keep my laws.”
38 He that believes on me, as the scripture has said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.
39 (But this spoke he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.) AKJV — John 7:38 – AKJV — John 7:39
Notwithstanding the children rebelled against me: they walked not in my statutes, neither kept my judgments to do them, which if a man do, he shall even live in them; they polluted my sabbaths: then I said, I would pour out my fury on them, to accomplish my anger against them in the wilderness. AKJV — Ezekiel 20:21
Everything that God gives us, He gives for our good. When we believe and do what He says, we shall live. That is the principle behind everything God gives to us.
In the Old Testament it is written that God gave His commandments and statutes, and that if a man does and obeys them, he shall live by them. Likewise, in the New Testament, it is written that if a man believes in Christ, he shall live by that faith. As it says, “I live by the faith of the Son of God.”
It is also written that whoever believes in Christ, as the Scripture says, “out of his belly will flow rivers of living water.” From this, we understand that when a person believes in Christ, there is a benefit—a spiritual profit. That profit is this: when you believe in Christ, He gives you His Spirit, the Holy Spirit.
In the same way, God promised His people that if they believe and obey His commandments, He will fight for them against their enemies. Likewise, Christ teaches that when we believe as the Scriptures say, even if Satan comes to tempt and trouble us, He will stand with us so that we may overcome sin.
This is the reason He gives us His Spirit: to help us overcome temptation, to deny the desires of the flesh, and to walk according to the Spirit and the character of Christ.
Furthermore, Christ says, “If you love Me, keep My commandments.” And what follows? To those who keep His commandments, He gives His Spirit to dwell in them. As it is written, we know that He abides in us by the Spirit He has given us.
When you keep His commandments, He lives in you and abides with you. As He says, “I stand at the door and knock. If anyone opens the door, I will come in and fellowship with him.”
This is the benefit—the spiritual reward—of believing and obeying. When God or Christ speaks, there is always a result and a reward for obedience.
15 If you love me, keep my commandments.
16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;
1 These words spoke Jesus, and lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, Father, the hour is come; glorify your Son, that your Son also may glorify you:
2 As you have given him power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as you have given him.
3 And this is life eternal, that they might know you the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.
4 I have glorified you on the earth: I have finished the work which you gave me to do.
5 And now, O Father, glorify you me with your own self with the glory which I had with you before the world was. AKJV — John 17:1 – AKJV — John 17:5
22 And the glory which you gave me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one:
23 I in them, and you in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that you have sent me, and have loved them, as you have loved me. AKJV — John 17:22 – AKJV — John 17:23
4 Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. AKJV — Romans 6:4
Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.
10 And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.
11 But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwells in you. AKJV — Romans 8:9 – AKJV — Romans 8:11
1 My little children, these things write I to you, that you sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous: AKJV — 1John 2:1
24 And he that keeps his commandments dwells in him, and he in him. And hereby we know that he stays in us, by the Spirit which he has given us. AKJV — 1John 3:24
17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it sees him not, neither knows him: but you know him; for he dwells with you, and shall be in you.
18 I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.
21 For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain. AKJV — Philippians 1:21
Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me. AKJV — Revelation 3:20
And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness AKJV — Romans 8:10
19 Yet a little while, and the world sees me no more; but you see me: because I live, you shall live also.
20 At that day you shall know that I am in my Father, and you in me, and I in you.
1 Come, and let us return to the LORD: for he has torn, and he will heal us; he has smitten, and he will bind us up.
2 After two days will he revive us: in the third day he will raise us up, and we shall live in his sight.
3 Then shall we know, if we follow on to know the LORD: his going forth is prepared as the morning; and he shall come to us as the rain, as the latter and former rain to the earth. AKJV — Hosea 6:1 – AKJV — Hosea 6:3
17 Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.
18 But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the LORD. AKJV — 2Corinthians 3:17 – AKJV — 2Corinthians 3:18
21 He that has my commandments, and keeps them, he it is that loves me: and he that loves me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.
22 Judas said to him, not Iscariot, Lord, how is it that you will manifest yourself to us, and not to the world?
23 Jesus answered and said to him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come to him, and make our stayed with him.
24 Let that therefore abide in you, which you have heard from the beginning. If that which you have heard from the beginning shall remain in you, you also shall continue in the Son, and in the Father.
25 And this is the promise that he has promised us, even eternal life. AKJV — 1John 2:24 – AKJV — 1John 2:25
24 He that loves me not keeps not my sayings: and the word which you hear is not mine, but the Father’ which sent me.
25 These things have I spoken to you, being yet present with you.
26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatever I have said to you.
27 Peace I leave with you, my peace I give to you: not as the world gives, give I to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
28 You have heard how I said to you, I go away, and come again to you. If you loved me, you would rejoice, because I said, I go to the Father: for my Father is greater than I.
29 And now I have told you before it come to pass, that, when it is come to pass, you might believe.
30 Hereafter I will not talk much with you: for the prince of this world comes, and has nothing in me.
31 But that the world may know that I love the Father; and as the Father gave me commandment, even so I do. Arise, let us go hence. AKJV — John 14:15 – AKJV — John 14:31

Christ declared that after his ascension, he would send to his church, as his crowning gift, the Comforter, who was to take his place. This Comforter is the Holy Spirit,—the soul of his life, the efficacy of his church, the light and life of the world. The Holy Spirit is Christ’s representative, but divested of the personality of humanity, and independent thereof. Cumbered with humanity, Christ could not be in every place personally. Therefore it was for their interest that He should go to the Father, and send the Spirit to be His successor on earth. No one could then have any advantage because of his location or his personal contact with Christ. By the Spirit the Saviour would be accessible to all. In this sense He would be nearer to them than if He had not ascended on high. ‘He that loveth Me shall be loved of My Father, and I will love him, and will manifest Myself to him ... The Lord knows all about His faithful servants who for His sake are lying in prison or who are banished to lonely islands. He comforts them with His own presence. When for the truth’s sake the believer stands at the bar of unrighteous tribunals, Christ stands by his side ... The Holy Spirit was the highest of all gifts that He could solicit from His Father for the exaltation of His people ... Sin could be resisted and overcome only through the mighty agency of the Third Person of the Godhead, who would come with no modified energy, but in the fullness of divine power ... Through the Spirit the believer becomes a partaker of the divine nature. Christ has given His Spirit as a divine power to overcome all hereditary and cultivated tendencies to evil, and to impress His own character upon His church.” (E.White, Desire of Ages, p.669-672)
Cumbered with humanity, Christ could not be in every place personally; therefore it was altogether for their advantage that He should leave them, go to His father, and send the Holy Spirit to be His successor on earth. The Holy Spirit is Himself, divested of the personality of humanity and independent thereof. He would represent Himself as present in all places by His Holy Spirit, as the Omnipresent.” (E.G.White, Manuscript Releases, vol.14, p.23)

The reason why the churches are weak and sickly and ready to die, is that the enemy has brought influences of a discouraging nature to bear upon trembling souls. He has sought to shut Jesus from their view as the Comforter, as one who reproves, who warns, who admonishes them, saying, “This is the way, walk ye in it.” – Review and Herald, August 26, 1890,
The Lord is soon to come. We want that complete and perfect understanding which the Lord alone can give. It is not safe to catch the spirit from another. We want the Holy Spirit, which is Jesus Christ. If we commune with God, we shall have strength and grace and efficiency.” Letter 66 to W.W. Prescott, April 10, 1894, par. 18
“While Jesus ministers in the sanctuary above, He is still by His Spirit the minister of the church on earth. He is withdrawn from the eye of sense, but His parting promise is fulfilled, “Lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world.” Matt. 28:20 While He delegates His power to inferior ministers, His energizing presence is still with His church.” – Desire of Ages, 166.2
“That Christ should manifest Himself to them, and yet be invisible to the world, was a mystery to the disciples. They could not understand the words of Christ in their spiritual sense. They were thinking of the outward, visible manifestation. They could not take in the fact that they could have the presence of Christ with them, and yet He be unseen by the world. They did not understand the meaning of a spiritual manifestation.” The Southern Review, Sept. 13, 1898 par. 2; Manuscript 44, May 13, 1897, par. 3

CONCLUSION: THE FULLNESS OF LIFE IN CHRIST
The Scriptures testify with one voice: is the center of all truth, the source of all life, and the only way by which humanity can be reconciled to God.
From eternity, He was with the Father. Through Him, all things were made. In Him, the fullness of God dwells. And through His life, death, and resurrection, the way to eternal life has been opened.
He is the Way.
He is the Door.
He is the Good Shepherd.
There is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.
Through Him, we come to know the Father. Through Him, we receive the Holy Spirit. Through Him, we are transformed from within.
The Holy Spirit—given as the Comforter—is not merely an influence, but the living presence of Christ working in the believer. By this Spirit, Christ abides in us, and we in Him. This is the divine union—the restoration of life, power, and holiness in the soul.
But this promise is not automatic.
It is given to those who believe.
It is fulfilled in those who obey.
It is experienced by those who abide.
“For to me to live is Christ.”
This is the final reality:
Christ in you—the hope of glory.
Therefore, let every soul choose:
To believe in Him fully.
To follow Him faithfully.
To abide in Him continually.
For the hour is coming when every knee shall bow, and every tongue shall confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
May all who read these words not only understand, but receive—and live.
Amen.
