An open letter to the President of the Republic

By Cde. James Mawuom Nhial
(NILEPET happy employee)

Your Excellency President Salva Kiir Mayardit,
With utmost respect and patriotism, I write this brief public message as a concerned citizen who believes that national institutions must be protected from voices that work against reform, stability, and genuine progress.

The oil sector remains the backbone of our national economy, and for many years the people of South Sudan have hoped to see stronger management, accountability, institutional stability, and professional leadership within Nile Petroleum Corporation (NILEPET).

Today, under the leadership of Hon. Emmanuel Athiei Ayual, many citizens and employees have begun to witness signs of serious institutional recovery and administrative discipline. Staff salaries are being paid on time, internal stability has improved, and the company has regained a sense of direction and operational seriousness.

The current management has worked to revive regular Management Committee meetings, strengthen consultation with the Ministry of Petroleum, the Petroleum and Gas Commission, the Board of Directors, advisors, staff unions, women unions, and departmental leadership. Such institutional coordination is essential for any national oil company seeking long-term success.
We have also witnessed efforts toward reducing debts, improving government revenue remittances, supporting production growth, and advancing the strategic national objective concerning the acquisition of former PETRONAS interests. These are not small matters; they are national responsibilities that require patience, continuity, and strong leadership.

Your Excellency, it is unfortunate that every reform-minded leadership in strategic institutions often faces resistance from individuals whose interests are affected by transparency, accountability, and the rejection of irregular influence. When a leader refuses pressure, favoritism, or politically motivate

Govt in talks with Meta, TikTok to monetize South Sudanese content creators — Ateny

Minister of Information, Ateny Wek Ateny, says the government is engaging Meta and TikTok to enable monetization opportunities for local digital content creators.

According to Ateny, the discussions aim to allow South Sudanese creators to earn revenue directly from platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok without relying on accounts registered in foreign countries.

For years, many South Sudanese creators have complained about the lack of monetization access despite producing content with large online audiences. Some creators reportedly use accounts based in countries where monetization services are supported in order to generate income.

The issue has become a growing concern within South Sudan’s digital community, with creators urging the government to intervene and negotiate with major tech companies.

If successful, the move could open new economic opportunities for influencers, media personalities, comedians, musicians, and other online creators across the country.

Dhieu Mathok condemns arrest of MPs

Former Investment Minister Dhieu Mathok has criticized the arrest of two Members of Parliament, describing the move as a violation of constitutional rights and political freedoms.

This week, authorities arrested MPs, Kom Kom Geng, chairperson of the Security and Public Order Committee, and Ayii Ayii Akol, brother to Vice President Hussein Abdelbagi Akol.

Dhieu was responding to what he described as accusations that his recent writings in social media fora were intended to incite the Aweil community against the government, dismissing the claims as incorrect.

“I would like to inform Hussein Abdelbagi, Deng Wal, and anyone else who believes that my writings are intended to instigate the Aweil community against the government that you are mistaken,” Dhieu wrote.

Reacting to the arrests, Dhieu Mathok said elected representatives should not be targeted for performing their constitutional duties.

“The real instigation against South Sudanese people comes from your decision to arrest MPs simply for exercising their constitutional rights,” he stated.

Dhieu Mathok further dismissed speculation that he had gone into hiding amid the political developments.

“Please stop speculating that I am in hiding. I am here in Juba,” he added.

The developments have triggered renewed discussion on political freedoms, civic space, and the treatment of elected officials in South Sudan.
