Address to the Community and People of Ganyliel – Cultural Day, 29th April 2026*
_Delivered at Ganyliel Mixed Primary School

Good morning respected elders, chiefs, parents, teachers, pupils, and all our guests,

Today, *29th April 2026*, Ganyliel Mixed Primary School is not just a school. Today, it is a home of culture, a stage of pride, and a mirror of who we are.

1. Why are we gathered here?
We are here for *Cultural Day* – a day to remember that before we were pupils and teachers, we were sons and daughters of this land. Just because the world is changing does not mean we must forget the songs, dances, food, dress, and language that our grandfathers and grandmothers gave us.

2. To our community in Ganyliel:
Thank you for coming. When you sit here and clap for a child dancing _bul_, when you taste the _walwal_ cooked by pupils, when you hear a poem in Thok Nath – you are telling that child: _“Your culture is important. You are important.”_
This school cannot teach culture alone. It takes parents, it takes elders, it takes the whole village. Today we are one village.

3. To our pupils:
Look around you. The beads on your neck, the skin on your waist, the words in your mouth – these are older than any textbook. Be proud. Education does not remove culture. Education makes your culture stronger because now you can write it, teach it, and share it with the world. *Always on the Top* means top in class AND top in knowing who you are.

4. To our friends across South Sudan and the world:
Ganyliel has known floods. Ganyliel has known hardship. But today, Ganyliel shows you joy. Our children are not only surviving – they are singing. They are not only waiting for help – they are celebrating heritage. If you want to see the future of South Sudan, don’t only look at the news. Look at this school ground today.

5. Our promise after today:
Cultural Day is not for one day only. We ask every parent: speak your language at home. Teach your child one proverb, one song, one story this month. We ask every teacher: bring culture into Maths, into Science, into English. We ask every child: never be shy of where you come from.

*Theme 2026: “Our Culture, Our Identity, Our Unity”
When we know our identity, we stand strong. When we stand strong together, we have unity. And when we have unity, no flood, no challenge can wash us away.

Thank you to the organizing committee, to the mothers who cooked, to the elders who guided, and to every pupil who performed with a brave heart.

*God bless Ganyliel. God bless our culture. God bless South Sudan.
