BE OUT OF + OBJECT: to not have any more

I am out of money.
= I had money, but now I've spent it all.
We are out of time.
= We had time, but now it's all gone.
You are out of luck.
= You had luck, but now it's all gone.
I am out of things to say.
= I had things to say, but I have said all of them.
We are out of milk.
= We had milk, but now it's all gone.

RUN OUT OF + OBJECT: to use the last of it

I ran out of money.
= I used all my money.
We are running out of time.
= We have very little time remaining.
She's going to run out of energy.
= She will need to rest soon.
We ran out of ideas.
=We couldn't think of more ideas.
He has run out of patience.
= He is not going to be patient anymore.

COMPLEX TENSES:

Present Perfect (unfinished past activity, experiences)
I have lived here for 10 years
I have never seen the Queen

Present Perfect Continuous (unfinished past activity)
I have been living here for 10 years

Past Perfect (clarifying an event before moment in past)
I had already booked the tickets before I arrived at the station

Past Perfect Continuous (continuous activity before moment in past)
I went to see the doctor because I had been having knee pains

2nd Conditional (unreal situation)
If I had more money, I would buy a bigger house

3rd Conditional (unreal past situation)
If I had known, I wouldn’t have gone


CLAUSES:

Clauses and Conjunctions, (and, but, for, nor, or, so)

I live in Spain
AND I like it very much,
BUT the weather is a bit too hot.

Relative Clauses (who, which, that, where, whose)

I live in Spain
WHICH is a beautiful country

I live in a city
WHERE there is not too much traffic

Adverbial Clauses (because, after, before, although, when...)

I lived in Malaysia
BEFORE moving to Spain

I live in Spain
BECAUSE the food is great
ALTHOUGH there are not many vegetables

Put it all together...

I have been living in Spain for 10 years,
which is quite a long time actually
partly because the food is great,
although there are not many vegetables here

⭕ Useful phrasal verbs (speaking). In English we have hundreds and hundreds of phrasal verbs. Here are some: ⤵️✔

◾wind down = relax. After work I like to wind down by walking in the park.
◾call off = cancel. I know a couple who called off their wedding celebration due to Covid-19.
◾ drop by = visit. I usually drop by my aunt's house on Fridays.
◾ push back = delay something. I need to push back our meeting from 10am to 1pm.
◾ fill out (in) = complete a form. Applying for a visa requires you to fill out/in multiple forms.
◾ bring out = reveal. Her new makeup really brings out the colour in her eyes.
◾ lay off = to make people in a company
redundant. Owing to the impact of coronavirus, the company needed to lay off 20% of its staff.

⭕ a whizz: a person who is really talented. He's a whizz with computers.
⭕ a deadbeat: a person with no ambitions in life. He dropped out of school and is not looking for a job; he's a real deadbeat.
⭕ a go-getter: a person who always wants to reach the next goal. My cousin is a real go-getter.
⭕ a rock: someone you can trust and rely on. I can always call her because she's my rock.
