PUNTNEFA Virtually Participated in Youth Online Learning Program

We are thrilled to announce that PUNTNEFA actively participated in the second day of the Youth Online Learning Program.

Recently, the Global Campaign for Education (GCE) unveiled a groundbreaking initiative - a youth and student-led academy designed to equip young individuals with the essential tools to engage in educational policy discussions at local, regional, and global levels.

This learning program forms a crucial part of GCE's Youth Leadership Program for the Implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, which PUNTNEFA is proudly spearheading in Somalia in collaboration with the GCE and the United Nations Democracy Fund (UNDEF).

In the past week, PUNTNEFA extended invitations to numerous youth networks, organizations, and individual youngsters to join this platform and seize the invaluable opportunities for personal and professional growth offered by the ongoing classes.

To date, two enlightening sessions have been conducted focusing on (1) Understanding UN Structures in Pursuit of SDG4 and (2) Harnessing Research for Effective Advocacy and Lobbying. Over the next two weeks, GCE will host two more engaging learning programs covering (3) Digital Education, Gender Mainstreaming, and Education in Emergencies, and (4) Education as a Fundamental Human Right.
Throughout these virtual sessions, youth participants have exclusive access to the comprehensive online learning repository curated by the GCE, which provides a wealth of indispensable resources.

PUNTNEFA urges its members and all young people in Somalia to take full advantage of this remarkable opportunity. Stay tuned for further updates as we will be sharing more information during our upcoming Youth Caucus Consultation meetings in the following weeks.

Waxaan ugu hambalyeynaynaa shacab weynaha Puntland maalinta weyn ee 25-ka May 2023 iyo xaqiijinta himiladooda.

With the support of Al-furqaan Primary and Secondary School in Badhan district of Sanaag region, Puntland Network On Education For All conducted School Theatre Performance program dedicated for the education of girls and women and the protection of thr rights of persons with disabilities. The event was jointly participated by school management committee, community education committee, students and teachers.

The speakers at the event articulated the importance and promotion of girls education and the protection of the rights of persons with disabilities clearly emphasizing that such persons are endowed with special talents hence special needs which should be catered for in a holistic manner. Policies, curriculum and teaching learning materials need to be gender and disability sensitive and are required to address issues of inequality and exclusion. At the school level, children with special needs ought to access schools and classrooms and should be excluded because of school facility that lack the disability friendly entrance and walkways.

Girls education can me improved through various ways including but not limited to affirmative action, community sensitization, school bursaries & fee waivers, increasing female teachers as role models among other actions. Students promised to engage communities to enhance awareness and understanding and PUNTNEFA will continue advocacy at the policy level to influence decision that affects girls education.

This activity is part of series pathways to participation events to he held at schools across the board and youth and students will keep raising their unified voices for action towards girls and women’s education and the rights of people with special needs and talents.
