At Institute Somalia, we celebrate the resilience and vital contributions of Somali women in the fisheries and maritime sectors. These remarkable women play a crucial role in the fish and seafood trade, not only supporting their families but also enriching their communities.

Despite the challenges they face in this male-dominated industry, their strength and determination ensure that fish reaches local markets and distant borders, sustaining livelihoods and nourishing families.

We are proud to support Somali Female Fishmongers, especially those from IDPs and underserved communities, through our *FishConnect* *Initiative*. This initiative empowers women in the fisheries sector by providing tech-driven solutions in financial inclusion, digital market access, and comprehensive training, advocating for their essential role in this industry.

We at the IFES Institute are thrilled to share East Africa University's announcement about a scholarship opportunity in the Faculty of Marine Science and Fishery. This initiative is particularly significant given Puntland's extensive coastline along the Gulf of Aden and the Indian Ocean.

The establishment of this program highlights the need for expertise in marine science and fisheries management, which are essential for sustainable development in our region. As one of Puntland's pioneering higher education institutions, East Africa University recognizes the importance of equipping a new generation of scholars with specialized knowledge in these fields, which have been relatively underexplored in Somalia.

As a respected research institute dedicated to sustainable fisheries, IFES Institute is committed to supporting these students, the university, and the Puntland Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources throughout this journey.
