Words have power.  Growing up as a member of the Fulani tribe in Senegal, I was always the darkest little girl on the block.  The neighborhood kids called me by different nicknames and finally chose “noiraud fille de la nuit l’amie des étoiles .“  This means swarthy or black girl daughter of the night and friend of the stars. It never bothered me until I was repeatedly asked to bleach my skin. Like any human being, it’s easy to let people mess with your head. I tried bleaching but it made me feel pale.  Somehow, my identity was bleaching, so I immediately stopped.  Since arriving in the USA, I daily receive complements about my skin’s complexion. This boosted my confidence and I grew more accepting of my color.  When I decided to create my business, I started thinking about a name for my brand. Kids will always tell the truth. My 2 year old one day just woke up from a nap and looked a me and said mommy « you are  so black, I like it « . I decided to own the word Noiraud and take pride in my dark skin and make it into something positive. I own what I look like and who I am. I plan to use my creativity to make products that would people feel unique, different. And empower young girls and boys to accept and love themselves just the way They Are.


That’s the story behind my business name and logo . Thank you to everyone who have helped me, support me, empower me, inspire me especially my husband❤️.
