Today is our last day of posting on this account. We hope you learned a bit about what it is like living and studying here in Plovdiv. And if you have any question let us know!

For today we want to show you that Plovdiv is located in the perfect place to travel. The travel prices are much lower than in western Europe and the transport is good, the only thing that you need is time. A train ride to the capital takes around 2:30 hours and a train ride to the Black Sea coast takes 5 hours. There are also a lot of busses available to neighboring countries like Serbia, North Macedonia, Greece, and Turkey. Even if you do not like to travel that long there are options, the mountains (which are very nice for hiking) are only 20 minutes away by train. 🏔️ 🥾🚃✈️☀️🏖️

The agricultural university in Plovdiv is quite small with around 2000 students, because of this the university has more of a high school feeling which is very different then the WUR. The regular courses are taught in Bulgarian, this means that international students have private lessons in English with only other international students. This semester there were 8 Erasmus students. Luckily there are more universities in Plovdiv and through ESN we met with some of the other international students. The private lessons are really different than at the WUR, it is much more tailored to your needs and professors are happy to take you on excursions to companies and for example a rose oil distillery.

Wil je na afronding van je hbo-bachelor of wo-master naar het buitenland voor studie of onderzoek? Het Cultuurfonds geeft beurzen aan studenten uit alle disciplines. Bijvoorbeeld voor een master toegepaste wiskunde, archeologie of internationale politiek. Maar ook voor (een onderdeel van) PhD onderzoek in het buitenland, zoals onderzoek op het gebied van geschiedenis of geneeskunde. This post is about my trip to Vancouver Island! After a long bus and ferry ride we made it to Victoria, the capital of British Columbia. The city was filled with beautiful architecture and cozy little shops! Fun fact: Victoria is known as ‘The Garden City’. The city is filled with flowers! 🌷

UBC is famous for its beautiful campus, which is one of my favorite things about the university! I was amazed by how large the campus actually is, it’s a great way to get your steps in ;). UBC even has several beaches, perfect for relaxing after classes, and the sunsets there are incredible 🌅. One of the highlights is the rose garden, a spot filled with stunning roses and an amazing view of the mountains, perfect for a cute photo moment 🌹

Fun fact: many movies and shows are filmed on the UBC campus! One of my favorites is She’s the Man. In my first month here, I even got to see a film crew in action on campus!

Another thing I love about UBC is the strong sense of school spirit and community, especially around sports. The energy at varsity games is incredible! The first photo was taken during homecoming, the first football game of the season 🏈. I love seeing everyone dressed up in their UBC gear, cheering together for the team. I also got to watch my first ice hockey game with friends, and it was so much fun! 🏒

One of my favorite things to do is take the bus downtown and just stroll around the city. Vancouver is a vibrant place, with the perfect blend of skyscrapers and a beautiful waterfront. One of the most popular activities here is biking around Stanley Park. It’s something everyone here seems to love, and for a good reason! After just one week at UBC, I was already missing the cycling, so getting to bike through the park with friends was perfect. The trail takes you right alongside the water, with views of the mountains, beaches, and you might spot a seal 🦭

Vancouver is surrounded by countless mountains, making it a perfect spot for hiking! 🥾 And in the winter, it is the best spot for skiing. So if you love nature and outdoors, this is the place for you! 🫶🏻

And one thing I still can’t get over is how breathtaking the sunsets are here. Almost every evening, I find myself taking pictures of the vibrant colors filling the sky. 🌅
