MBSSE dispels Misinformation and Disinformation about Ongoing WASSCE 2024

The Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education is hugely concerned with the gross misinformation and disinformation that is making the rounds on social media, purported to have emanated from certain Private School Principals about the reason why some of their candidates are not registered to write the ongoing WASSCE.

The Ministry is disappointed in the manner in which these said Principals who are supposed to be examples of uprightness and honesty are bringing this noble profession into the mould. The Ministry expects these defaulting Principals to be sincere enough to correctly inform their pupils/candidates that they are not writing the current WASSCE because they were not registered by their school authorities, by a way of not uploading their Year One Continuous Assessment Scores (CASS) into the WAEC portal which automatically disqualified them from proceeding with the registration process through the other stages for both Continuous Assessment Scores (CASS) and the Batch Registration System (BRS).

However, because the Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education does not want any genuine, school going and eligible candidate to be disadvantaged unduly, the Minister, Mr. Conrad Sackey decided to engage the Ministry of Finance for an alternative mechanism in order to enable these candidates still write the November/December WASSCE with cost on Government. This discussion is at an advanced stage.

The process of determining these genuine, school going and eligible pupils/candidates will be conducted by the Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education in consonant with the Council of Principals of Secondary Schools (CPSS), both Private School Associations, Civil Society Organisations, the Parliament of Sierra Leone and the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC). The Ministry will inform the general public when the process commences.

One thing that is certain is that, all those defaulting Principals who by their own negligence failed to register those genuine, school going and eligible pupils/candidates for the May/June WASSCE will face stringent administrative actions from the Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education and the Teaching Service Commission which will range from suspension to summary dismissal.
