Welcome to the first "National Teacher's Roundtable on child safeguarding"in sierra-Leone.The government of Sierra Leone through the president Bio's flagship"Free Quality Education"initative,the first lady's"Hands Off Our Girls"campaign,the "Leh we Lan"Education project and the Freetown Mayor's"Schools leadership Program"(in partnership with Rising Academy Network and Educaid) have been doing exceedingly abundantly in making sure children especially girls and those living with disabilities are given the maximuma attention and protection they need both in and out of schools and the chance to learn in environments that are both physically and psychologically free from any form of violence,and thankfully a lot has been achieved like no other time in the history of the education sector in sierra-Leone.
Other local and International organization dealing with child protection and safeguarding have also been concentrating considerable amount of time,human resources and money in the Same regard.But there still remains room for improvement.
It is so because the teachers and community residents who are two of the major players in the game of safeguarding the Children have been given very little training and professional development support to help curb out the menace of corporal punishment and the barbaric acts of sexual and pyschological violence that has been eating into the very fabric of our education system and the the sustainability of our civilization and development.
The National Teacher's Roundtable on child safeguarding Seminar therefore is bringing together for the first time in our history,child protection professionals and enthusiasts and teachers in this maiden edition of a wide range of professional development trainings on child protection and safeguarding,the duty of care, alternatives to corporal punishmentment,child neglect,food safety, bullying amongst students amongst others.
