When those entrusted with upholding justice are the very ones seeking justice for themselves while being accused of committing injustices, it raises serious questions about the integrity of the system.

Yesterday’s cancellation of the Bar Association’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) has once again brought these concerns into the spotlight.

For a long time, I have criticized the Bar Association and the broader justice system. In my view, the Bar Association has too often been perceived as an institution marked by political divisions, bias, selective treatment, and a lack of consistency in defending the principles of justice and fairness. These perceptions, whether accepted or challenged, deserve serious reflection because public confidence in the legal profession depends on transparency, accountability, and impartiality.

A justice system cannot command the respect of the people if its own institutions are viewed as divided or unfair. The rule of law must apply equally to everyone, and those who defend justice must also demonstrate it in their own conduct. Justice should never be selective it must be impartial, independent, and rooted in integrity

The Constitution is the supreme law of the land. It should protect the rights of every citizen, strengthen democracy, promote accountability, and ensure justice for all. Any amendment must reflect the will and aspirations of the people, not partisan political agendas or short-term political advantage.

Members of Parliament have a duty to put Sierra Leone first. History will judge whether these reforms were made for the benefit of the nation or for the benefit of a few

Yesterday’s events in our House of Parliament were disappointing, but I hope that same level of energy and passion will continue to be directed toward the issues that truly affect ordinary Sierra Leoneans.

Whether it’s the APC or the SLPP, it often appears that many of our politicians are more focused on defending their own interests than serving the people who elected them.

When was the last time we saw Parliament hold a serious debate on the rising cost of living? Where are the urgent discussions about the ever-increasing prices of vehicles and driver’s licences, the rising cost of fuel, skyrocketing food prices, or the high cost of obtaining a national passport—a basic document that should be affordable and accessible to every citizen?

These are the issues that directly impact the daily lives of Sierra Leoneans. The people deserve leaders who prioritize their welfare over political disagreements and personal interests
