Football is slowly but surely losing its credibility. If the current trend continues, there may come a time when many fans, clubs, and even entire nations begin to boycott football competitions. Increasingly, decisions that should be based on fairness, sporting merit, and the integrity of the game appear to be influenced by political interests and power struggles.

Football was created to unite people across cultures, races, and borders, but it is gradually becoming entangled in political agendas. When politics starts to dictate decisions, determine outcomes, or influence governance within the sport, trust in the system begins to erode. Fans invest their passion, time, and emotions into football because they believe in fair competition. Once that belief is weakened, the sport risks losing its most valuable asset its credibility.

For football to maintain its global appeal and integrity, transparency, accountability, and impartial decision-making must remain at the heart of the game. Otherwise, the growing perception that politics outweighs fairness could drive supporters away and damage the future of the sport.

government of South Africa is well aware of the xenophobic attacks and discrimination faced by fellow Africans within its borders. Since the beginning of these incidents, there have been concerns about the delayed and insufficient response from both political leaders and law enforcement agencies. Many people question why stronger condemnations and decisive actions were not taken at the early stages to prevent the violence and protect innocent lives.

This perceived silence and lack of urgency have led some to believe that the authorities are either unwilling or unable to adequately address the problem. Xenophobia has no place in Africa, and governments have a responsibility to promote unity, protect all residents regardless of nationality, and ensure that those responsible for violence and hatred are held accountable.

It is with deep sadness and concern that we wake up to reports that Sierra Leone is expected to receive the first batch of deportees from the United States today at the Freetown International Airport in Lungi.

This decision raises serious questions about the future of our nation, our security, our economy, and the dignity of Sierra Leoneans. Reports indicate that the deportees include individuals from Senegal, Ghana, Guinea, and Nigeria under a new financial agreement between the United States and the government of President Julius Maada Bio.

What is most alarming is that this may only be the beginning of a broader arrangement where Sierra Leone could receive up to 300 deportees every year from the United States. A country already struggling with unemployment, economic hardship, drug abuse, inadequate healthcare, and limited opportunities for its own citizens should not be turned into a destination for mass deportation arrangements without transparent national dialogue and accountability.

The people of Sierra Leone deserve clarity:
Why was this agreement made?
What are the long-term consequences?
How will this affect national security, social stability, and the future of our youth?

This is not just a political issue it is a national concern that touches the identity, sovereignty, and welfare of Sierra Leone. The government must be transparent with its citizens and place the interests of Sierra Leoneans first.

May wisdom, accountability, and genuine patriotism guide the decisions being made for our country.

While international cooperation on migration can strengthen diplomatic ties, many Sierra Leoneans may view this agreement with concern because the country is already facing major economic, social, and security challenges. Receiving deported migrants from other nations could place additional pressure on limited public resources, employment opportunities, housing, healthcare, and security systems.

There are also concerns about transparency, national sovereignty, and whether citizens were properly consulted before such an arrangement was accepted. Many people may feel that Sierra Leone should prioritize improving the welfare of its own citizens, especially young people facing unemployment and hardship, before taking on responsibilities linked to deportation policies from larger countries.

Diplomatically, critics may argue that agreements of this nature should be carefully balanced to protect the country’s image, national interests, and long-term stability, while ensuring that humanitarian and security considerations are fully addressed.

Cape Coast Castle is more than a beautiful landmark by the sea — it is a painful reminder of one of the darkest chapters in human history. This UNESCO World Heritage Site stands as a silent witness to the horrors of the transatlantic slave trade.

Within its cold walls and dark dungeons, thousands of African men, women, and children were chained, torn away from their families, stripped of their dignity, and forced to wait in fear and despair for ships bound for the Americas. The infamous “Door of No Return” marked the final heartbreaking moment many of our forefathers saw their homeland before being taken into a lifetime of suffering, cruelty, and slavery.

What makes this tragedy even more painful is that above those same dungeons stood a church where the slave masters worshipped God while innocent Africans cried, suffered, and died beneath them. It remains a heartbreaking symbol of hypocrisy, injustice, and the deep wounds left on generations of African people.

Today, Cape Coast Castle is not just a historical site it is sacred ground that carries the tears, pain, strength, and memory of our ancestors. Their suffering must never be forgotten, and their story must continue to be told with truth, honor, and remembrance.

At a time when much of the world has chosen silence, and when many are afraid to speak up, Lamine Yamal showed courage beyond his years. Raising the Palestinian flag during Barcelona’s trophy celebrations was more than a gesture — it was a symbol of humanity, justice, and solidarity with people enduring immense suffering.

While many powerful nations continue to look away, and while countless public figures remain silent out of fear or pressure, a 17-year-old stood firm in his beliefs. In a generation where speaking the truth often comes with consequences, his bravery has inspired millions across the world.

This moment will not be forgotten. History always remembers those who choose compassion over silence and integrity over convenience. To many people, Yamal is not only a football prodigy and future legend of FC Barcelona, but also a young man who showed heart, conscience, and moral courage when it mattered most.

The world will remember his talent on the pitch, but many will also remember the courage he showed off it.
